Hi I need help on configuring mediaportal tv server. I have a infinitv for the tv tuner and I have Verizon as my provider.
I have the tuning mode in Digital Cable and when I scan for channel it takes forever, also once it scans all the channels are listed as unknown. I also can't get view tv in the media portal client,do I need to open ports?

    Hello and welcome :)

I have a infinitv for the tv tuner and I have Verizon as my provider.

    That's right. :)

and when I scan for channel it takes forever, also once it scans all the channels are listed as unknown.
    Where do I start.
Okay, I hope you've read this:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...rver_Configuration/02_TV_Servers/7b_Scan_ATSC

In particular, that you applied the configuration here:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...2_TV_Servers/7b_Scan_ATSC#Tuner_Configuration

Scan time depends on the SDT/VCT timeout that you set. It needs roughly 5 minutes. That's just how long it takes for the CableCARD to cycle the lineup. Compared with a clear QAM or DVB tuner that is nothing. They can take 20 minutes or more to scan.

Channels should not be listed as unknown if you have set the SDT/VCT timeout high enough. Names won't be updated after the channels are created, so if you have unknown channels now you should delete them all and rescan with an appropriate SDT/VCT timeout.

Note you only have to scan with one tuner. After you've done that you can link the channels to the other tuners, as described here:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...Server_Configuration/03_TV_Channels/2_Mapping

I also can't get view tv in the media portal client,do I need to open ports?
Not enough information to be able to answer your question directly.
In short, you shouldn't have to open ports unless you're not running TV Server (the back end) and MediaPortal (or some other frontend) on the same computer. I note that the MediaPortal installer creates the required firewall exceptions for the Windows firewall, but if you're running another firewall then yes you'll need to sort that yourself.
Otherwise, I suggest you make sure you've configured your codecs (LAV recommended - get via the MediaPortal extension installer if you didn't install them with MediaPortal):
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...nfiguration/9_Codecs_and_Renderer/1_TV_Codecs

    ...and then post log files:
