Cause has been found I think the only real solution is to reinstall a full XP setup, not prepared to do that at the moment MP is working just fine for me for now.

As I said above it is due to me running a cut down version of XP, some services necessary for some aspects of MP configuration were not present when I installed it most notably the WMI service. Consequently the prob would be solved with a full install in my particular case. However as I said before I'm satisfied for now that MP is doing what I need, maybe sometime in the future I will reinstall XP but not for now.

Well, seeing as my WMI service works just fine, I don't sdee that as a reason to re-install XP...
I would however like to see a list of services that is neccessary for MP to run ...if possible...?
Also, wondering if MP is officially supported on XP64?

Can't tell you about 64 support but I believe there are afew users using it on 64 systems, A list of services required would be nice.
