Netbook and MP streaming (1 Viewer)

As I seem to have fallen back in love with MP and seem to have got some great stability now, I am thinking of streaming to a netbook, so I could have music or TV anywhere throughout the house.

I can stream really well onto my laptop, so how would a netbook perform?? Does anybody do this this?? Which is the best machine to go for??

I have searched and there seems to be a lot of content re this in the German section of the forum, but, admittedly, my German is poor.

This looks like a nice bit of kit to act as a portable media centre.. Cool looking tablet PC would this spec' work OK?

i think this will work, i am using an eepc 1011ha ithink, that has a slower atom than the tablet (1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor vs 1,33 ghz ), and tv works good (hdtv is not playing well) but i didnt test musik, but i think it shouldnt be a problem..

Thanks for that Cubii - there seem to be so many netbooks out there, most I have seen have the Atom 1.66Ghz. The tablet is a bit expensive at £350 but does look good - I could get a netbook for £200. Before I bought I thought I would see if others had done something similar. I know it wouldn't play HD, but I was looking at something to stream music, stream SD TV and deal with Internet radio and other radio channels.

I have seen the Logitech Squeezebox and like it as it acts as a media streamer, but is very expensive - I was thinking that I could do something better using my TV PC and a netbook.

Are you on XP on your eepc ??

I have an old Acer Aspire One A150 netbook (upgraded to 1.5GB ram, 80GB 1.8" ipod-style hard drive and XP Pro). It works OK as a MediaPortal client machine. The downsides to it are that it takes a little while to resume from hibernate, and if MP isn't running already, it takes even longer to fire it up (I guess the 1.8" HDD is pretty slow, but it's still much better than the dog of an 8GB SSD that shipped with it). However once running, it's absolutely fine for watching satellite TV streamed from my HTPC. And it can just about handle 720p MKV content, although I get audio sync issues with some files.

I have an ExoPC tablet on pre-order at the moment, it's not at all cheap, but I'm hoping that's going to be a better MP client. Not scheduled to ship until mid-October though.

tony72 - The ExoPC looks like a nice bit of kit... What processor does your Acer Aspire Netbook use? Do you stream over wifi ?

The Aspire One A150 has a 1.6GHz Atom N270, good old-fashioned netbook CPU. Yes, I stream over 802.11G wi-fi, I seem to have good enough signal everywhere in my house for streaming TV and video files without problems via MediaPortal. I'm lucky that there doesn't seem to be much interference around here, I can see around 10 other access points, but none with a strong signal.

Yeah it looks very good for a mp client!

Mhh, i am searching for multiroom solutions since some weeks and thats what i think:

Squeezeboxes and sonos etc...(raumfeld) are perfect for sound, you get a nice system that also can stream the same mp3s/radio to all rooms synced. but arent cheap...and cant do video

If you are using a laptop you cant get multiroom synced audio (with mp i dont now if there is a software solution for this synced audio (follow me etc)

and you need a sound box /speakers etc... ( and you have to switch the speakers and the laptop on - iam to lazy for this !?)

Are you on XP on your eepc ??
