I'm going to use my current system as a starting point. Right now, I want to play DVDs through this pc onto my TV and use my audio receiver for sound. I'd also like to use it for the internet/email/pictures.

Here is the specs of my current system.

Abit IS7-E Intel Standard ATX
Intel Pentium 4 2.8E Prescott
Kingston 512MB DDR400
Rosewill RW92SE - Radeon 9200SE 128MB DDR AGP
SATA 150GB
43 inch DLP Widescreen

My board has onboard 6 channel audio with S/PDIF Out, so I think I'm set with audio.

I'd like to upgrade my chip and memory, but it looks to be good for now.
My drive space is fine because I'm not interested in recording TV just yet.

My biggest concern is my video card. When I bought this card, I went cheap. It has a DVI connection. The specs state Directx8, that's where I am concerned.

Any suggestions? I don't want to purchase anything right now. I want to get it up on its feet and upgrade as money (or wife) permits.

Actually, if you download the latest drivers for that card you should be ok for MediaPortal. ATi added software support for DirectX 9 to the 92xx series cards and equivalent integrated chipsets.

Just don't expect to run DirectX 9 games on it. It's pretty ugly.

I'm not a gamer, so that doesn't matter. I'd like to be a gamer, but I just don't have the time.

As long as I can watch my DVDs, use the internet/email, and play around with digital photos and video, I'm happy for now.
