Ok, I have a fresh install of Windows 7, followed by drivers installed following the guide by Goose, with a fresh install of Media Portal 1.1.0. When I get to the TV server configuration, I choose MySQL.

Hostname: HTPC (Yes it is the name of this PC)
Dependency: MySQL
Schema name: MpTvDb
userid: root
password: MediaPortal

When I choose test, i get a pop up with "Connection Failed! Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL servers." The dependency turns green, and the hostname turns red I tried searching, but couldn't find any answers. Please help me.

If you installed MySQL independently from the MediaPortal installation, you have to run the MySQL Server Config Wizard first.

Run through the steps to Reconfigure the instance. You could opt for the Detailed Config. or Standard. The Detailed option will let you control how much demand you want to the SQL server to have. For a dedicated server you might want more resources pooled in for the database. Then specify a dependancy and set up a password. Finally initialize the service and finish to save the configuration.

Start the MP TV Server and enter the machine name and SQL dependancy and password you specified in during the SQL Config wizard. Should be ready to go now.
