1. Can it automatically extract to temp folder, rather than prompting? It ruins the new trendy look-and-flow imo
2. Can language be automatically determined, since the logged on user would(should) be in the culture they prefer.. Perhaps use this setting programatically: Start> Control Panel> Regional and Language> Regional Options> Location. That way, a French user using English XP can automatically inform MP installer he is French without paying for multilingual mp
3. "No I will not use MediaPortal to watch TV" > Perform an advanced installation> Next> Next just says "Congratulations you have succesfully completed the setup blah blah". It didn't install anything. It went to that page in a nanosecond, like it skipped install.
4. I am hoping saying "No I will not use MediaPortal to watch TV" will install JUST the tvserver not mediaportal too.
5. Do you want to watch HD content question needs some technical explaination, perhaps through tooltips. What is the difference? F1 key doesn't do anything
6. The install review page is non-intuitive with Windows. I clicked Next (as I'm sure 80% other people did) and any error makes me feel bad. So how about delete the Next button, and move the Install button into its place - like most wizards.
7. On the finish page, the red text "mediaportal is free etc" looks really tone-harsh on the grey background. Maybe it's just me but it makes my eyes act really strange, they go cross eyed and i feel dizzy.

9. On launching the TV-Server Configuration, the password textbox was not focused at first. However, I click the MySQL choice, and the password field focuses (good), then click MS SQL choice again and password field focuses again (good).

Remember, this is the "MediaPortal" Deploy Tool. Not MeediOS.
Therefore the applied logic would assume:
1. You've started the MediaPortal installer because you want to install MediaPortal
2. You choose not to watch TV with MediaPortal -> it will not require TV-Server nor ask anything about TV

Result = you'll get MediaPortal installed plainly without TV-Server.

ERm, then are you saying MediaPortal (the htpc app) is forced onto a Server where the user is trying to install the tvserver onto a monitorless Server? That would be bad. That'd be like Microsoft Exchange forcing you to install Outlook onto a server.

The Logic:
1. I started MediaPortal installer because I wanted TVServer only, nothing else
2. This implies TVServer cannot run without MediaPortal. This is not true

I would fully agree with your logic if there is a standalone TVServer 1.0 RC1 download out there somewhere that I missed? I would prefer it to be optionally seperate. Perhaps "No I will not use MediaPortal to watch TV" just needs rewording, because with my logic/POV that statement is True... I won't be using MediaPortal to watch TV, I'll be using a different htpc frontend. Still need the tvserver though.

I hope someone valued my other constructive critisisms, rather than just find holes in the question and embarress the luser I'm not too lazy to have fixed the bugs myself, but I was removed from SVN without word.

Well there's a nice way for your people to setup TV-Server even with the MediaPortal Installer:

1. Advise them to read our wiki instructions - most important of all the requirements.
2. Start the DeployTool - choose the download only option.
3. Execute that TV-Server setup file located in the "deploy" sub directory.

This is self-containing as well and should work if all requirements are met.


EDIT: We're still interested in smart coders. However SVN access can only be granted to members which participate the team communications (which is via IRC mostly). I see no reason why you could not have uploaded "your" patches to sourceforge though...

5. Dedicated Tv-Server (master)
6. Install
