    Hi All,

i'm about to perform a fresh installation of my MP (porting from WinXP to Win7). The main reason is, that i'm hoping to solve this problem because anything else runs like a charm. (I'm installing on a new HD, so in case of trouble i can revert back ;-))

Since the last installation, excluding updates, was for about 3 years i don't want to make any mistakes, especially in terms of codecs. I remember i put plenty of time to configure ffdshow.
So to make it short some questions:

    • Which codec should i install (if any, i have CoreAVC and Power DVD so far, are they still good?)
    • Do i still have to fiddle with merits?
    • How to configure ffdshow (if needed anymore)
    • Should i take MySQL (preferred because of personal knowledge) or MS SQL (Performance?)
    • Whats the best way to setup the screen for best results at my TV (refresh rate and size)
    • Is it a good idea to import EPG (XmlTV) settings and channel lists?
    • Is the "dvbfix" still required on win7?
    Anything else important?

    Many thanks in advance!

Download and install SAF. Will set all this up for you. https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...xperimental-based-ffdshow-dxva-decoder-77591/

[*]Should i take MySQL (preferred because of personal knowledge) or MS SQL (Performance?)

MySQL is installed for you by the MediaPortal 1.10 installer. No need to worry about that anymore.

[*]Whats the best way to setup the screen for best results at my TV (refresh rate and size)

Try to either match the refresh rate to the source video as close as possible. E.g. on PAL video use 25hz/50hz/75Hz which ever your monitor/TV supports. Resolution I would go with either 720P or 1080P

[*]Is it a good idea to import EPG (XmlTV) settings and channel lists?

Sorry, no idea about this one. Personally I use all OTA epg/channel lists works perfectly.

[*]Is the "dvbfix" still required on win7?

    Nope.

    Anything else important?

    Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Thanks for reply. One point i forgot. Should i go with Win7 64bit or stay 32bit? I've only 2gig ram so i dont need 64bit for that reason...

Windows 7 comes with its own pretty good codecs. I'd suggest you don't install any additional codecs as a first start and see if the inbuilt codecs are working for you. If they don't you can still install SAF later on.

32 or 64 bit doesn't make a real difference. Drivers should be equally good (or bad ;)) these days. If you buy a new license you might want to choose 64 bit as you might not need it now, but maybe later when upgrading to 4GB of RAM...

    +1 Win7 32 bit + Latest unlocked SAF5.0 beta.

    DON'T INSTALL ANY OTHER CODECS.

also you can try as above with built in codecs pre SAF, but at the minimun you will need to install an mkv splitter as that is not part of win7

What changes have been made between SAF 0.5Beta and 0.4 Stable. Is it safe to install this beta version?

go for v5. it's safe. for differences read the relevant threads

Presently SAF V4 thread is 541 pages. SAF V5 thread is 129 pages. Should take you just a few minutes. ;)

But seriously, I concur with SAF V5. No problems here, and it's just one click to uninstall if you want to.

Might I also suggest, after you get everything working, take a look at my personal favorite plugin https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...rule-based-scheduling-suite-26158/#post167952 I suggest rather than reading the thread here, click through to the official site to read about it there.
