Hi

Firstly let me say that this is a fantastic plugin and really makes my system the envy of my friends. The version for MP 1.2 is a major step up on the version I was running on MP 1.0.0.0. I have upgraded to MP 1.2.0 Beta and the appropriate version of Moving Pictures. Initially everything worked exactly as expected, however today it has demonstrated a few quirks.

I installed a new movie and it would not appear in the movie lists in Moving Pictures. I could see it in My Videos but nothing would get it into the plugin. I removed it from the source folders and rebooted the PC, reinstalled the movie into the source folders a couple of times to no avail. this took place over a couple of hours and I was about to give up when it just appeared. I have since added another movie and 4 hours later have not been able to get it to show up in Moving Pictures. I have checked the naming convention with the name on IMDB.com and it appears to be correct. Whenever I have added a movie prior to today I would get an entry in the configuration for approval or it would just get inputted.

Any suggestions would be great.

Regards

Mickb

hmmm... wonder if this is related to what I am seeing? I am on release 1.1.4 (MP 1.1.3). At first, I do not see new titles show up after I have added new files to watched folders. They eventually appear, but I have no idea how long it takes (it is a few days later that I enter Moving Pictures and notice the new title has appeared). I assumed it was a slow rescan interval due to my having added watched folders as UNC shared format, but maybe there is something more to it?

Top 3 reasons that movies do not show up immediatly:

    1. The filename is not recognized properly. You have to open MovingPictures configuration to manually approve the movie, or use the binocular icon to make corrections and search again. There is an existing enhancement request to be able to approve movies from within GUI, but for the time being you have to check the config once in a while.

Best solution to never run into this problem is to have the IMDb tt-ID be a part of the filename, or use the simple NFO scanner in combination with an NFO file that contains the IMDb tt-ID in it.

    2. There is a lock on the file. MovingPictures can therefore not gain proper access to it for import (it will retry once in a while, to make it work when you are in the process of copying, but eventually gives up if the lock is permanent). When you close MovingPictures and then reopen it and the file appears, then more then likely this was due to a lock (if Windows puts the lock on it you have to use ProcessExplorer tool from Microsoft to release it, or reboot the system).

Best solution is to not use the MovingPictures import folder as a process folder for your download/rename/etc software. Process the files on a temporary folder and as final command use a Windows API compatible method to move the file into the final destination that is monitored by MovingPictures. Be aware that Windows itself can also put a lock on the file, for example for thumbnail generation in the thumbs.db database. You can disable that part by removing AVI preview function in Windows Explorer, google for the commands. More then likely other software you have is causing the problem, which can also be your anti-virus solution.

    3. The file is recognized as being the multi-part of an existing movie. This is when movies feel like they 'dissapear', because they do not show up inside MovingPictures config import screen, and you would have to manually check every existing movie for the file-details, or check your log file to see what happened.

Best solution is to make sure each movie is easy to identify by itself, which is easiest by having the IMDb tt-ID be part of the filename. Also be sure you do not have the option enable to 'group' movies that are in the same folder, unless of course you have seperate folders for each movie.

I use Ember Media Manager to manage my movie folders, and the Ember scraper only for Moving Pictures. Therefore I know that there are no problems with the identification of the movie, it may be what you have stated above. I will have to trial a few things to see if this is it.:D

Since you are using UNC paths, it might possible relate to the following issue:

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/moving-pictures-284/gui-rescan-interval-98182/#post762627

I personally have never had any issues with UNC based import paths and have imported tons of movies that are detected immediatly upon placement of files into the folder. Even the moving of files across different UNC paths that are both import folders configured for MovingPictures works without issues for me, but they are all Windows based systems (as it seems SAMBA could be a cause).

But if you do use a seperate media manager system, then more then likely it is still having a lock on the file that is preventing MovingPictures from importing. If you switch to debug mode for MediaPortal then the MovingPictures.log file actually tells you this in plain text that it detected a new media file, but that it has a lock on it and that it will try it again later.

So it really is easy to debug what is going wrong for you, and if reading those log files is hard for you, then just attach them to a reply on this forum thread. It has to of course contain the problem scenario, so starting+stopping MovPic and then giving those log files is useless. You have to repeat the problem so the log file can record it.

    Hi

    Thanks for all the replies.

I haven't been able to solve the problem as yet, but to get over the immediate issue I delated my watched file path and re-entered it. Moving Pictures then rescanned my movies, picking up the new ones so that answered the question on the naming of the files. Interestingly it didn't pick-up all my movies the first time. I had to shut down the configuration tool and restart it and it immediately picked up the missing 70 movies.

As I said in my original post, when I first upgraded to MP 1.2.0 Beta, Moving Pictures picked up movies as I added them but in the last week this issue has arisen.

Each movie is a separate file and includes the IMDB name (excluding the colon on sequels) and the year of release in brackets ie "Eagle Eye (2008).avi"

When it scans the watched folders it has no difficulty identifying the movies, including the two versions of The Bourne Identity (1988 & 2002) so naming isn't the issue

There isn't a lock on any of the files. As I rip my DVD's, the file is copied over to the watched folders.

I am sure there will be a fix for this, it is too good a plugin and it seems there are a few people with the same issue. That said, this is still the best plugin for MP and if it means I need to rescan the watched folders occassionally I can live with that, but would really prefer to have it working automatically again. I don't know if this gives any clues but My TV Series is picking up new series and/or episodes pretty much as they are entered.

Looking forward to any further thoughts you all may have.

This is exactly what was happening, thanks RoChess. I now use Ember to scan details / artwork and name files as per my preference in a separate location, then exit Ember and move the movie files to my Moving Pictures watched folder (still UNC), and they get scanned and added immediately.:D

    Glad you solved it.

Would be good to let the Embed developers know, so they can find a solution.
