I have been using this software (TVengine3/mp) quite successfully for a while now except for when there is anything more than two recordings happening simultaneously, I am about to update my media server, what I wanted to know (and I apologize if this is not the correct forum) is will the TV server benefit from a quad core processor, or would it be better to get a slightly faster dual core one. thanks for your help

I would update to a newer build of MP, at least the 0.2.3 release first. After all, that doesn't cost anythng

There may well be driver issues too.

As MP 1.0 RC1 is on the horizon, it might be an idea to get some de-bugging and logging done so if there is a bug in MP it can be fixed before MP1 goes final.

What kind of cards are you using? Are the DVB or hardware MPEG-2 cards? if so your processing shouldn't be the limiting factor, as you are always just dumping the digital streams to disk, there isn't any encoding required.

Thanks for that, I believe they are dvbt, I know for sure that some where along the line they use resources, as the computer starts stuttering if I try and do anything else when two or more are recording.

It would be a really good idea to edit your first post and fill out the support template properly.

There may be known issues with your card, but you haven't told us what they are so how can we help?

Are you running out of RAM? who knows.

All I wanted to know was, is this software designed to take advantage of multithreading, i.e. would I be better off with a quad core, or a faster dual core. I did not say I even had a problem, in fact I find it strange that you all think that recording/watching TV should use processing power. If the TV server is somehow designed to use no more overhead running 5 tuners than 1 then I apologies for my ignorance, but it seemed logical to me that it would, it is also true that some software does not benefit from multithreading so my question appeared logical to me.
