Hi,

I have been a long time Meedio user, and still use it for most of my HTPC needs.

I had been looking for some time for a good app for HDTV and decidied to give MP a go after most other apps would not find channels, crashed or both. My first impression of MP is great. I managed to set it up and get my Dvico Fusion Lite card working, imported xmltv epg using DUGG and everything seemed to be working nicely. I picked up almost every channel available for my area- Sydney (no ther app has done this).

The problem is I get random crashes. Generally MP will work nicely for about 10 min and then my PC crashes and reboots. I have been using 0.2 RC4, so I will try the stable build tonight. Are there any other ways to make MP more stable such as codec/filter selection?

My hardware is as follows:

P4 Duel core 2ghz
Asus P5P mobo
Asus 9600xt GPU via DVI to HDMI to Pana Plasma 42"
1gb OCZ Ram
Dvico Fusion Lite
250gb SATA
TT iMon
X-Mystique 7.1 SC
Running on Win MCE 2005.

Cheers

Hi Surlyrich and welcome to MediaPortal.

I have been using MediaPortal for over 12 months now and I find it to be "as solid as a rock" - I don't get any crashes, hang-ups or any other unpredictable behaviour. I do, however run it on a dedicated PC that I have been meticulous with the installation of Windows and all the required patches.

My guess is that it is your PC environment that is causing these hang-up problems, but we will need more information from you to narrow it down. Could you please post your complete Support Template and your MediaPortal.log file from an instance where a crash has occurred. I am pretty confident that you will find the cause will be something outside MP - like drivers, codecs, or Windows itself... :?

Hey there, welcome to the forums.

To try and work out the reason for the crashes, yopu can take a look in the MP logs. They are in the team media portal/logs directory and the ones that will probably mean the most are the mediaportal and error logs.

I would stay with the version you are using, and maybe try applying an SVN update http://svn.team-mediaportal.com/ -Make sure you read the instructions carefully ;-)

There have been a lot of bug fixes since the official RC4.

If you still have issues, try and work out if there is a pattern to the crashes. Always in TV or something similar.

Then if all that fails, follow the instructions for the support template, found here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=2766

and also post the logs I mentioned above. Probably not needed to post the entire logs, maybe just the last 1/2 page of each.

    Good Luck :)

    Marcus.

Thanks for the replies. Before I try anything else, I might try rebuilding the OS first. It has been a bit buggy lately. Any suggestions/additions on the following build:

    - Windows MCE 2005
    - Net 2.0
    - Drivers for devices
    - Win Updates
    - Win DVD 7
    - Meedio
    - MP 0.2.0 RC4 with SVN updates
    - xvid, divx, ac3, matroska, ffdshow codecs
    - Firefox

    Cheers

I would suggest that you don't install any codecs until you have MediaPortal running flawlessly with TV - then take an image backup and install a codec at a time to make sure the codecs don't break anything...

And Meedio - suggest you leave that out, too....

And make sure that you install the very latest versions of all the drivers, particularly for the video and TV cards....

ok... I did a rebuild of XP last night. All i installed were drivers, xp updates, .net 2 and winDVD. Installed MP RC 4 with the SVN update, and it crashed when trying to scan channels. Uninstalled, deleted the folder and just installed RC4, and I got the same prob. Any suggestions?

after a clean install, a good test is to install the PVR application that came with your TV card and run that first to make sure the TV card is installed properly.

The crash in the Wizard... I had that too, on my Swedish XP just after a clean install. However I could just ignore the error (Drag to side), step through the Wizard and later enter the config without any problems.

Maybe that's what you had? Seems to be an unknown cause of this error, unless it has recently been fixed.
