Newbee help importing please. (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone, I just installed MediaPortal and MovingPictures and I'm having a hard time adding movies. All of my files are ISOs and MovingPictures sees them fine. When trying to import it says it's retrieving possible matches and just sits there half way and never completes. If I try to do anything the program just crashes. Should it take this long? I'm using Vista Ultimate 64bit on a machine with 4GB of RAM. Is there something obvious I'm missing? I tried turning off my firewall and that didn't help. I verified I can load IMDB with not problems. I'm also running the latest version of MovingPictures.

I just tried it with an AVI file and it worked fine. It just won't get past 50% on my ISO files. Any ideas out there?

Hi danicus007, welcome to the forum. I don't think your trouble is necessarily related to the type of the file, since you say Moving Pictures recognizes the files. It's probably just waiting for you to accept one of the matched results. If the movies have a blue letter i next to them, it means that it couldn't find an exact match, and you need to select one of the possible matches, or give it a new name to search with. You can accept a match by selecting it from the drop-down list beside the file in question on the Movie Importer tab, and then clicking the green check mark. If none of the possible matches look correct, click the icon that looks like a green circular arrow to enter a new title to search with.

If you're still having trouble, could you post your log file to the forum using the instructions found here?

Well it definitely does not give me any type of results at all. It starts to scan the file name and gets about half way at the bottom and just stops. If I click on the Enter Manually button the program just crashes. I turned on Debug error logging and browsed to the path where the log was supposed to be and it's not there. If I add a txt file to the folder with the IMDB path it works fine BTW. I'd rather not have to do that for every file, but I will if I have to.

Also I thought this plug-in let you search by Actor, Genre, etc. I don't see that option anywhere. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Hi, You can also get to the log files from your start menu. Under the start menu, go to
Team Media Portal\Media Portal\User Files

Be sure to get the movingpictures.log file immediately after you've experienced the import issue though, because this file is overwritten each time the plugin launches. If you have already resolved all of the the problematic movies with text files, the log file probably won't be much benefit.

If I add a txt file to the folder with the IMDB path it works fine BTW. I'd rather not have to do that for every file, but I will if I have to.

You shouldn't have to. The log file will probably shed more light on the cause of the issue.

Also I thought this plug-in let you search by Actor, Genre, etc. I don't see that option anywhere. Maybe I'm mistaken.

You will be able to filter by these things in version 0.8, which is still in the works.

Ok it looks like you have added iso as an extension for nfo files, so the plugin is trying to read iso files into memory as if they were ascii. This is causing an out of memory exception. To fix this problem, go to the advanced settings, and change the setting called NFO Scanner File Extensions to:

nfo;txt

Then close the Media Portal config and re-start it.

Edit: If you then find that the plugin is not seeing your ISO files, add the ISO extension to the location depicted here:
https://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/MediaPortal/Configuration/Movies/Extensions

, yeah I added it in there when I was trying to figure out how to get it to see my ISO files. I have since put the ISO extension in the right area so it does see them now. I just need to remove it from the .nfo;.txt area. I'll do that when I'm back at home and report back. I'm sure it will work though. Thanks for your help

I removed the .ISO from that field and it's working perfect now. Thanks so much for your assistance. Can't wait for the next release so we can sort by actor, genre, etc. Really looking forward to that.
