Thanks for getting this far. I am thinking about taking the plunge into the murky world of media centres. My current set up is too complicated for my missus to grasp and a media centre seems to be a good solution. My understanding is that using your fancy dan software plug in I can watch a HD freesat channel such as BBC HD and record another channel even though my proposed HTPC has only one tuner. Is this correct?

I don't seem to be able to find a PCI with dual tuners for HD freesat. If I had freeview I would be ok. Please can anyone help?

No, you need a tuner per channel, whether watching or recording, even MediaPortal can't get around that. You could add a USB tuner though.

I believe you can watch and record multiple channels using one tuner as long as they are on the same transponder for satellite, or MUX if you are using digital terestrial.

True (as long as hardware/drivers support it) but chances of two channels being on same transponder on satellite are pretty low.

ok guys so i am clear, i would need 2 freesat pci cards and the software would support me to watch one record one? Is this feasible or am I trying to do something really out of the ordinary? I really appreciate your help with this.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR4400 and a Hauppauge WinTV HVR4000 and that works fine, although I tend to use it more to record two channels at once as I have a Humax Foxsat box for watching Freesat. The HVR4400 also can use its DVB-T tuner at the same time as the DVB-S/S2 one is in use (the HVR4000 can't) so I could record 2 DVB-S/S2 channels and one DVB-T at the same time, but I am not sure I have needed to do this.

Thanks for that, I have a freesat box too (and a blu ray player and a popcorn media box) but i am trying to consolidate all of my stuff so might actually get more enjoyment from it plus fewer cables, remotes etc.

If I understand your first post correctly, you need a dual tuner DVB-S card that fits a PCI slot?

I'm running three dual tuners, 2 x PCI and 1 X PCI-e and I was looking at trying to get a PCI-e card to sort of connect with a remaining PCI slot. To do this I found this...>>> here <<<< it allows a PCIe card to work in a PCI slot.

I use a dual tuner PCI-e satellite card from TBS - >>> here <<< This card is a low profile card and works really well. Whether it would work with the converter card, I cannot say, but its height should fit and it may offer a solution other than changing your motherboard.

Thanks Porky, thats a great help. What CPU and mother board are you using. I have committed yet but looking an intel I3 with a H55M/USB3 motherboard (as this is the only I have seen that supports HDMI Audio with Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio)

One possible issue using a converter may be bandwidth. I may be wrong but I think there aren't many HD dual tuners using PCI and they tend to use PCI-e as the interface has more bandwidth. I am guessing that using a PCI-E to PCI converter for these cards could cause issues.
