Hi,

I am wanting to use the compress feature of media portal to turn my dvr-ms recordings to xvid from within Media portal. I understand I need a codec from Elecard. Can someone link me to exactly what I need to do this? I have been on there website and they have so many products I am not sure what to buy.

also... can someone confirm that the new codec actually works? I don't want to buy anything unless it will work...

Thank you very much-

I bought the "Elecard MPEG2 Decoder and Streaming PlugIn for WMP v3.4" a long time ago and it works great for TV and DVD. Nevertheless I've never transcoded any recordings with. So if you only need this package in order to use this specific feature in Mediaportal, I'd really advise you to check the demuxer capabilities out first before buying anything.

-download and install the Elecard package
-find a file named empgdmx.ax, copy it in a safe place
-uninstall the whole package.
-re-register the demuxer: regsvr32 /i empgdmx.ax
-try it out with Mediaportal

Hello Reagan + Carter,

You said you bought the codec a long time ago... are you using the latest version?

To answer your question, transcoding is not the entire reason for buying this codec but it is half the reason so I guess I should try it out. I was trying to get answers without installing anything since my MP is working well and I wanted to uninstall ffdshow beforehand. Do you use Elecard codecs for H.264 decoding...if so how do they work?

Thanks for posting,

no, last time I updated was 2 or 3 months ago.

I use CoreAVC instead. Never tested theirs. According to beta testers at doom9.org, their very early h.264 demo codec was far from being perfect.
BTW, in the package I mentioned above only MPEG2 is hnadled. No PureVideo, only DxVA hardware acceleration is supported.

In my experience, the Elecard team usually produces top-notch codecs and their MPEG2-related filters are the most resilient to defected or slightly corrupted streams.

thank you

Thanks alot for the info. I really appreciate it. I will test the elecard mpeg2 codec to see if I can transcode to xvid from within MP. I have read good things about coreavc. I do believe I will put it on my must have list so I can put ffdshow to bed. FFDshow works for me...for the most part but my HTPC isn't really "cutting edge" hardware hehehe...if ya know what I mean.

Thanks again,
Take care.
