next, prev during playback too slow (1 Viewer)

Hi,

when I press next or prev button during dvd playback (disc and hdd) it always takes about 3 seconds till it switches between chapters. This is really annoying. All other functions seem to get processed fast.

I already tried using different codecs and so on, but without success.

Additionally since RC3 (not in RC2) I can't use Cyberlink DVD Navigator anymore. When I select it, nothing happens when trying to play from hdd and in disc mode I he says that disc drive is empty. In the logs I can see that there is a problem selecting language and subpicture.

Thanks

Sebastian

Yes looks like there may be a problem, just did a quick test using both powerdvd6 and dvdnavigator as defaults and getting some strange results
Unfortunately watching the FA Cup Quarter final whilst doing this.
Got to have a life you know. Will run more tests later tonight/tomorrow.

In the meantime I found out, that my performance problems do not occur when I play dvds on my notebook. Same MP 0.2.0.0 RC3 and even a slower processor with only 2 ghz. All the other environment including codecs etc. are equal.

Also I have a problem with subtitles. In another post I already read that switching subtitles and languages is working via OSD up to now. Any news? I can set what I want, subtitles are always shown in a dvd movie. If I disable it by the dvd menue it is kept disabled until I press next or prev. After that I have to disable it again.

Codecs from Cyberlink and standard DVD Navigator enabled.

    Thanks

    all my experiences

After some hours more testing now I got the functionality I wanted.

    1. Subtitles always on

It seems that MP forces subtitles on. I have this problem with almost all codecs and dvd navigators I tried. Only Intervideo doesn't show subtitles if disabled. After some time I found the setting for mpeg2dec "Always display forced subtitles". After disabling this mpeg2dec was now able to play dvds without showing subtitles. The other codecs (cyberlink, NVIDIA, etc.) still show subtitles.

    2. Cyberlink DVD navigator

Now I have MP 0.2 RC3 CVS 03/25 installed. My problem when using Cyberlink DVD navigator is still persistent and I still get the "no disc" message when trying to playback a dvd. When using NVIDIAs navigator it is exactly the same.

    3. Performance problems with next, prev

I found out that this must be a codec specific problem at all. The strange thing is, that my slower notebook doesn't let this problem occur with the codec from cyberlink. Now I am using mpeg2dec and with this there is good performance switching chapters.

    4. Intervideo codec and navigator

With Intervideo codecs and navigator there is still the problem that you don't have any pointer inside a DVD menue. It works at all, but you can't see were you are.

    5. DVD navigator and black screen in DVD menue.

On my notebook I still have the problem when using the standard DVD navigator that the screen gets black and sometimes the whole MP freezes when accessing a DVD menue. It must be a problem with windows media player, because using it has the same result. Upgrade of windows media player was no solution.

    Hi,

I just tried the new RC4.

The problem with bad performance when switching chapters using the cyberlink codec still exists. If I use Cyberlink PowerDVD directly, it switches chapters at once.

Since RC4 I can't select Cyberlink DVD navigator anymore in MP setup. This is also a way to solve the problem with the "no disc" error ;-)

    Best regards

    Re: all my experiences

    Hi,
    Just tested with MP0.2RC4 + SVN 06-12-2006--01-01
I used nvidia, MPV & Intervideo codec's when tested.

Subtiltles it's off if that is what I have selected here

    skr-home said:
    2. Cyberlink DVD navigator
It's not possible anymore, only default navigator

    3. Performance problems with next, prev
Here DVD / .iso's changes at once with all codec's

Haven't had this for awhile, but have you tried to hit "ok", "play" or "enter" when the black screen appears?

If you experience error please post your mediaportal.log, error.log to MP Pastebin or pastebin.ca & link back here.

You should also include your system setup according to this Template

    Hi,

now i had some time for detailed tests with RC4 and newer svn.

Yes, since RC4 most of my problems watching dvds and movies from disk are fixed now. Now almost all codecs provide suitable results also with little performance, compatibility and navigation differences. I will post a little list with detailed test results later.

I always prefer MPV/MPA codecs for everything within MP, because in my opinion it provides the best performance with good quality and the fastest dvd navigation (next, prev, rewind, fast forward, etc.). It seems also really light-weight if i monitor the load of my htpc.

    Black screen in DVD menue:
Using MPV (Mpeg2Dec) i only have one last issue which is unsolved until now. When playing some dvds at first the pre-videos are playing fine and then when the dvd menue is entered automatically the screen is black and i can only hear the sound. If i press "dvd menue" on my remote or doing this by keyboard at this moment the dvd menue gets restarted and then i can also see everything. I verfied this yesterday with all other codecs (cyberlink, intervideo, dscaler, nvidia, etc.) and the problem occurs only using MPV. Especially with dvd "Harry Potter 4" (german version) i always have this problem.

    Thanks
    Sebastian
