hi everyone,

ive used medio portal in the past on vista without issues, but on xp its just ben hassles all along. as it stands now, its been weeks or months since i installed xp and i still cantr get mediaportal working. ie tried other programs, gbpvr doesnt support one of my tuners, and others u have to pay for, i was getting close to paying for one of them, but i dont want to do that.

so the problem is i start mediaportal and turn on tv, but nothing really happens, it doesnt freeze up, the application is still responsive, but theres no audio or video. i have installed on this pc the tv server and mediaportal as a client to the same pc. configured exactly as it was in vista. if i open the tv server config, sometimes in the manual control menu, it says timeshifting started by tv (my computer name) other times it doesnt, i think if i exit media portal and open it again, its those 2nd and times after that it doesnt start it timeshifting. the tv server is working i believe. if i open tv server and go to the channels menu, i can preview channels, and the window pops up, with working audio and video. i can also open the media portal tv client program, and then play tv using vlc player.

i have the latest media portal installed, just downloaded it from this website, v1.0 rc2. i have uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen times. i also have installed cyberlink dvd power player 8, cole2k codec pack. i have tried without cole2k instaled, and without power player installed. no go in any of those combinations. i am running sp3, and all the latest updates, mp11, etc i am stumped, and starting to get seriously frustrated.

could someone please give me any info on this issue??

thanks,
Clint

Do you get this screen showing when you enter the TV module, note the buttons marked "TV-Streams and active recordings", can you see these, if so it shows the TVClient plugin has installed correctly in mediaportal.

Can you upload logs, collect these using the Start menu\team-mediaportal\logs collector and upload them using the forums go advanced + function.

    Thanks

yes i do get to that screen. i can view the active steams, such as when i start a stream in the tv server config, it shows up in that list, but i cant view any tv, it just shows the message cannot start timeshifting, no audio/video detected. ive uploaded the log.

i actually gave up on media portal a while back. i just couldnt get it working, and when i initially did have it working it seemed to fail easily, so far i am not impressed, and actually quite frustrated, and have spend many many hours and days on it, still not working.

yesterday i saw there was an rc4 version released, so i installed that.. it worked first time. i was then using mediaportal all day, it was playing tv all yesterday and last night, recorded a few different programs, was changing channels, all seemed well.. i did see the no audio video message a few times, was after changing channels i think, i just tried to view tv a few seconds later and it worked. over the day i had turned the pc on and off multiple times, a few of those times i bumped my tv card which froze the pc, but turning the pc back on and starting mediaportal worked immediatly, no problems.. i was beginning to think it was finally good.. ive stil got a few other complaints but anyways... they are kinda minor in comparision, but still annoying.

so today after i woke the computer from sleep and started playing internet radio for an hour, no problems, went to play tv and got the no audio/video message.. restarted the computer multiple times, stopped andstarted the tv service, tried in window mode, full screen mode, on the first or second monitor, done everything i can think of, but its now exactly the same as it was in the past.

what does work: i can view tv from within the tvserver config. and most of the time i can use the tvclient? program, the stand alone program that uses vlc player to view the tv. but mediaportal will not work at all. since last night nothing at all has changed. i am stumped, and again frustrated, and another hour lost trying to fix it...

hopefully someone can help as i have almost given up on mediaportal, mce isnt as good but it is generally reliable.. and so far mediaportal has not been reliable at all.

    thanks for your help.

Hi, if anyone can help at all that would be great! still trying and finding nothing that can help me. to make it easier for people heres the contents of the error log file:

i kinda fixed mine too.. upgraded to vista 64 bit

i tried every codec i had on my system, which was a lot, and nothing worked. i thought maybe something there would fix it but nothing worked.

initially when i tried MP i was running vista mce, which i was fairly happy with. XP MCE was a different story, unliable, it would work for a few months then random problems would arise. so while running vista, i tried mediaportal, and it worked good, so i went to xp and installed mediaportal to find it was no good, couldnt get it working, and have tried for several months, which in the meantime i havent been able to record tv. so going back to vista now, it seems to be working well.

    Fixed it...however!
Reinstalled the ATI drivers (Catalyst Control Center), installed PowerDVD and played around a little bit with the codecs.
First I couldn't watch videos...fixed it by changing to PowerDVD-Codecs - worked - and switching back to MPV - worked then.
And finally TV worked, too  Did it the same way like I got the videos to work.

I think this doesn't help anyone...

sounds odd really.. thats not a solid solution.. so sounds like something there is a bit weak. my MP running on vista is still going strong :) i would be interested to know is all the other many people with this same error message are also running XP?
