So I have been setting up my new HTPC, and I got frustrated with WMC requiring Ir hardware, so I decided to try Media Portal. I have it configured to connect to composite on my tuner, but every time I try it it says No videoaudio detected. It worked for a short while yesterday after not working for a while, but had a green bar across the bottom. Anyone know why it won't find audio? The logs attached are from today's attempts and yesterday's, including when it was working.View attachment 94731

    Hi and welcome willbill642 :)

It worked for a short while yesterday after not working for a while, but had a green bar across the bottom. Anyone know why it won't find audio?
You're working with a tuner that requires software encoders. Software encoders can be incredibly finnicky and unreliable and I think that may be at least part of what you're experiencing at the moment.

Number one recommendation would be to configure the tuning details for your channels with the correct audio and video source settings. What am I talking about?

    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Go to the TV Channels section.
    3. Select one of the composite/s-video input channels.
    4. Click edit.
    5. Select the row in the bottom area.
    6. Click edit.

I'm talking about the video source and audio source settings there.

It looks like you've done a little experimentation in this area already. The last thing I can see in your logs is that you're using CVBS #1 for video source and Tuner for audio source. That audio choice is not right for you. Here are the inputs that you have at your disposal (from your tv.log):

    2011-12-16 17:53:09.552212 [(3)]: analog: AddCrossBarFilter try:Conexant Polaris Crossbar 0
    2011-12-16 17:53:09.570214 [(3)]: crossbar pin:0 type:Video_Tuner, related:3
    2011-12-16 17:53:09.574214 [(3)]: crossbar pin:1 type:Video_Composite, related:4
    2011-12-16 17:53:09.575214 [(3)]: crossbar pin:2 type:Video_SVideo, related:4
    2011-12-16 17:53:09.576214 [(3)]: crossbar pin:3 type:Audio_Tuner, related:0
    2011-12-16 17:53:09.580214 [(3)]: crossbar pin:4 type:Audio_Line, related:1

The first input is the video input for the tuner - video source "Tuner". It is related to the fourth input (labelled pin 3) which is the "Tuner" audio source. You would use that combination (video source "Tuner" + audio source "Tuner") together if you were receiving channels from the aerial input on the tuner. You've said you're not doing that so let's move on. The next options are the s-video and composite inputs. The corresponding options in the video source are SVHS #1 and CVBS #1 respectively. You can see that both of those inputs are related to the fifth input which is the "Line In #1" audio source.

If you want to get a composite connection working then choose CVBS #1 for video source with Line In #1 for audio source.
If you want to get an s-video connection working then choose SVHS #1 for video source with Line In #1 for audio source.

The automatic choice for audio may work, but it may also be unreliable - best to choose a specific source.

Try that and see how you get on. There are no guarantees of reliability with software encoders which is why they're not officially supported.

Thanks, unfortunatly I discovered that it was a bit of a defective device, and the drivers just don't play well with windows 7, atleast in 64-bit
