Ever since i've upgraded to Windows 7 I've been having the weirdest problem with MP. When i start MP i hear all menu driven sounds fine and i can even play Music fine however the problem is when i go to play a movie i get NO sound whatsoever. Playing the movie using MPC or VLC i have no problems whatsoever with the audio. I've tried using my SPDIF out with no luck. I've checked to make sure that when MP is running that i do not have it muted in the background.

my last resort is to uninstall all my audio/video drivers along with mediaportal and re-install everything but i'm going to hold off on that :D

What else should i be looking for? I'm on MP RC3 + Windows Vista Ultimate :D

Try changing the audio-codec for movies...perhaps its not configured correctly.

As the poster said, you need to assure you have an audio codec selected for the each of the three tabs in MP config - MOVIES, TV and DVD. The apps you mention (VLC & MPC-HC) use internal codecs and don't really explain what MP is setup to use. Do you hear sound from LiveTV? From anything playing under MP at all? Also, be sure you have the codec (MPA for example) configured to use SPDIF.
