No free card available (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
I recently installed Mediaportal 1.2.3 to go with my Blackgold 3540 (dual dvb-s dual dvb-t) and I'm having problems recording 1 channel while watching another.

I'm only using the 2 DVB-S tuners.

After setting 1 channel to record, when I switch to view another I get "No free card available".

I've just done a full channel scan on both tuners and both picked up approx 620 channels each. I've checked in TV Server config and it only shows one channel recording (card:6)

Any idea why card:5 would say "DvbS is not available, tuned to different transponder" when I'm almost certain it's not?

I decided to try disabling card:6 to see if card:5 is working at all.
Unfortunately it can't view channels at all! After clicking on channel, MP takes about 10 seconds then returns "No video/audio detected".

Strange as it managed to do the channel scan fine?

Would this thread be better moved into the Support forum?

Were you previously using a different version of MP, or other software such as WMC?

Something funky is going on in your setup that I've never seen before. Not a problem with your tuners - something with MP.
Are you using any patches of any kind?
What happens if you use the manual control section of TV Server configuration to stop and start the service and then try again?

Thanks mm, I'm glad it's not a problem with the tuner then!
This is a clean install of MP, never used WMC or ever even had a tuner card before.
No patches, just a few plugins (no TV Server plugins except XmlTv). I'll have a play about with the manual control section later, when I was in it last night tuner 5 was always saying idle and I'm sure tv service had been restarted a few times during my testing of it. I've restarted my PC today so I'll check later whether that has fixed anything.

Update:
I've been testing with the Manual Control page in the Config and still no luck.
Tried restarting TVService several times, starting Timeshifting from that page, it locks up for about 10 seconds then gives the same "No Video/Audio Detected" as within MP. Timeshifting card:6 works fine from the manual config, and I've also switched the inputs round several times and confirmed that the problem only ever happens on card:5.

Is there a later buld of TVServer I could try, or any other suggestions?

Further update: Just to confirm your earlier suspicions that it's a TVserver problem, I've installed 4therecord and it can tune to both at once. Hoping to get the TVServer problem sorted though as 4tr doesn't meet all of my requirements

Well it seems like my PCI-e x1 card does not like being in an x16 slot! I originally had it in there because the x4 slot was blocked by cables to my optical drives, but as a last resort I unplugged the drives to try the tv tuner in the x4 slot and it works!

Interesting.
I have a couple of Pinnacle 7010ix tuners which I use the Blackgold BGT3540 drivers with. I'm able to stick them in x16 slots... but it could very well be motherboard dependent.
Glad you managed to figure it out, and thanks for reporting back.

Motherboard is Asus P5B-vm, hopefully this information will help someone in the future

No, definitely not.
I don't normally recommend trying it either.
It just so happens that the Pinnacle 7010ix has similar enough chips and layout.
As I understand it, the driver actually comes from NXP - the PCIe bridge chipset manufacturer - and has support for a ton of different tuner and demodulator chips thrown in. Many of the tuners based on the NXP/Philips/Trident SAA7162 were based on a reference design too, so that helps...
There are other situations where tuners are rebrands of other tuners where it also works.
As I say though: not possible in the general case.

i´m lat in your thread - having simular issues with a different card (Mystique Cine S3 dual DVB-S2) and a different MoBo...

In my oppinion moving the card from PCIe16 to PCIe4 couldn´t be the reason - as you reported the card working in 4THRecord !

Do you remember your steps AFTER installing 4THRecord? How was the step back to MP TV-Server?
