No signal detected.... (1 Viewer)

Hi everybody!

Ok....a new thread about the Hauppauge HVR1600, I already spent hours and hours on the forum to find answers, but I cant find them!

I was really happy and excited to see that finally my TV card was well detected with the new MP 2.3.0 RC2, but I still cant make it work well.
In the MP configurations, I add my TV card, then I select the NTSC tuner because I receive TV by Comcast cable, then I choose 720x480 NTSC ITU-601 D1 (because it's recommended!), and then I click on the 'autotune' tab. I select my country (United States) and the input source (cable). I click on 'scan', MP find all my channels with a signal strengh and a signal quality at the maximum for all of them...but the little screen on the left stays black.
I launch MP, go in 'my TV' and then, when I select a channel, I have 'No signal detected'....and I dont understand why!

Why it manage to find all my TV channels but after it doesn't work?
Is it a compatibility issue with this TV card or I do something wrong?

I reinstalled my card, made sure that WinTV was working well, reinstalled MP and installed the last SVN and TV engine 3 (even if I'm not really sure I need this last one).

Also, until now I was using Beyond TV and it was perfect, but the trial expired (I uninstalled it to make sure I would have no conflict). I was using MP for everything else because I really like the interface and the fact that my remote control works perfectly with it, and I was just waiting a new version which would find my card (which is the case with the new one).

Somebody would have a trick for me?

:D in advance...
Damien

Your configuration.log file says you have this card: 2007-09-19 20:21:28.515625 [Info.][Config Main]: SinkGraphEx: Added filter <Hauppauge WinTV 418 Encoder> with moniker <@device:pnp:\\?\pci#ven_14f1&dev_5b7a&subsys_74440070&rev_00#4&13699180&0&3848#{19689bf6-c384-48fd-ad51-90e58c79f70b}\{03688831-8667-4c61-b5d6-4a361f025d2d}>

It's the NTSC (Analog) tuner you can't get running because of an erroneous line of code in the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file. Read my other post and you'll know what to do: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showpost.php?p=184612&postcount=43

Ok I found!

I saw before this post you redirected me to, but I couldn't find a way to make it work even after deleting this line in the capturecarddefinitions.xml file.
In the 0.2.2.0 release, my card 74440 was just not detected, and the file he attached to this post was for the release, so I couldn't have my card detected.
But I compared this file he gave with the one installed in the 0.2.3.0 RC2, and then I found that a line was different:

In the file from the post (with the 74040070 tuner) :

<capturecard commercialname="Hauppauge WinTV HVR1600 (NTSC)" capturename="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture" devid="ven_14f1&dev_5b7a&subsys_74040070&rev_00">
<capabilities tv="true" radio="false" mpeg2="true" mce="false" sw="false" bda="false"/>
<tv>
<interface cat="encoder" video="2" audio="3" mpeg2="1" sectionsandtables="5"/>
<filters>
<filter cat="tvtuner" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Tuner" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="tvaudio" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 TvAudio" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="crossbar" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Crossbar" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="capture" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="encoder" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Encoder" checkdevice="true"/>
</filters>
<connections>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" sinkpin="%tvtuner%"/>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner" sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="tvaudio" sinkpin="0"/>
<connection sourcefilter="tvaudio" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" sinkpin="%audiotuner%"/>
<connection sourcefilter="crossbar" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="capture" sinkpin="0"/>
<connection sourcefilter="crossbar" sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="capture" sinkpin="1"/>
<connection sourcefilter="capture" sourcepin="4" sinkfilter="encoder" sinkpin="0"/>
</connections>
</tv>
</capturecard>

In the original file from 0.2.3.0 RC2 (with the 74440070 tuner):

<capturecard commercialname="Hauppauge WinTV HVR1600 (NTSC)" capturename="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture" devid="ven_14f1&dev_5b7a&subsys_74440070&rev_00">
<capabilities tv="true" radio="false" mpeg2="true" mce="false" sw="false" bda="false"/>
<tv>
<interface cat="capture" video="2" audio="3" mpeg2="1" sectionsandtables="5"/>
<filters>
<filter cat="tvtuner" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Tuner" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="tvaudio" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 TvAudio" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="crossbar" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Crossbar" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="capture" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture" checkdevice="true"/>
<filter cat="encoder" name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Encoder" checkdevice="true"/>
</filters>
<connections>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" sinkpin="%tvtuner%"/>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner" sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="tvaudio" sinkpin="0"/>
<connection sourcefilter="tvaudio" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" sinkpin="%audiotuner%"/>
<connection sourcefilter="crossbar" sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="capture" sinkpin="0"/>
<connection sourcefilter="crossbar" sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="capture" sinkpin="1"/>
<connection sourcefilter="capture" sourcepin="4" sinkfilter="encoder" sinkpin="0"/>
</connections>
</tv>
</capturecard>
</capturecards>

So I tried to replace "capture" by "encoder"....and that's it! Worked perfectly!

I think it would be an easy fix in the next release.

Thanks for the poeple who took time to analyse my files (especialy Andrew H).

You know... you're right! The file that "dude" posted has encoder as the 'interface cat' and NOT capture. Good observation! But, the default 0.2.3.0 RC2 file also contains the erroneous line:

<connection sourcefilter="capture" sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="encoder" sinkpin="1"/>

I am NOT qualified to say what effect this change has, or why it's different... in fact, I hadn't noticed the change because I was focused on the paremeters of the 74040 version. I'm glad to have helped... now if I can find a buddy to help me understand what all these do... I just got a GraphEdit assembled and haven't figured it out yet... what a learning curve!

Oh, and if anyone's reading this, I still can't get NTSC working on my ATi HDTV-Wonder, or my ATi AIW 9600XT that reports as "ATI AIW 9x00 Cards" because I AM USING Catalyst 5.4 WDM_NSP!

so what did you do? replace with encoder and remove the last line? Did you have to do it to all the instances on HVR1600?

Nathan

If I edit anything even turning radio to false with the 74440070, then it says no card(s) detected? Any ideas?

Nathan,

Yep, I just deleted the last line and I replaced "capture" by "encoder" and it worked.
But you need the MP 0.2.3.0RC2 to make it work, and in my case I'm with Comcast cable, I know anything about the ATSC part...
