No sound for most files (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

Happy MP user for several years now, was on 1.6 when all of a sudden (overnight??) sound stops working. It concerns Music files, Series (Mp4, MKV, etc..) Movies, but also the sounds in MP menu. Before, all worked fine.

So I thought, well alright, I'll give 1.7 a go then, maybe it'll solve it. It didn't. So back to 1.6, but then my video files didn;t even play. So fresh install of 1.7, but still this issue with sound.

Oh yes, htpc is connected to screen by VGA cable, and to receiver (about 13 yrs old now) by S/PDIF. All codecs have been set to LAV filter, so both video and audio. Windows 7, x64.

I've discovered a few things: sound on all files works well with Windows Media Player or VLC player. So master volume is ok.
It also works perfectly via remote desktop.

First I had selected default direct sound device; afterwards I've also tried Digital Audio S/PDIF... and Direct Sound Digital Audio..., without any luck so far.

One other thing: AC3 files seem to be working ok, AAC files aren't.

I'm getting more and more frustrated at the moment, is there anyone who can help me so I can return to being the lighthearted person I used to be

Fixed it (for now) by using MPAR, am quite curious as to why LAV didn't work anymore, where it did just the day before.

This is bizarre! I have just experienced the exact same problem. Sound on non-AC3 sources has simply stopped working. I have made no changes elsewhere - it just stopped (and I don't have Windows autoupdate turned on, so no changes there).

I did a small test this morning - created brand new log file, turned MP on, selected a non HD channel - no sound. The log for this is attached. Can anyone see anything in here that suggests what might be going on here?

It's entry 18 in that thread - it says:

Start MP, then use alt-enter to get to windowed mode and play music, then mouse over to volume icon in systray, click on this and then go up to mixer, you will see Mediaportal listed, does it show anything different to master volume, ie muted.

This is exactly what had happened to me me, no idea how it happened though.

This solved my problem also! why did MePo get muted in Mixer?

This happened after a catalyst driver update, including updating HDMI Audio driver (my default audio device).
