No Tuner Card Available Error (2 Viewers)

I have installed this software on two different PCs with the same results. I receive the No Tuner Card Available error message most of the time. If it works it works right after a new install and then fails with the message.

Also, dispute having an authorized CableCard I can see any of the Non-Broadcast HD channels with this software. I am able to see these channels with the HDHomeRun Software.

Sorry for the delayed response.

I have installed this software on two different PCs with the same results. I receive the No Tuner Card Available error message most of the time. If it works it works right after a new install and then fails with the message.

It looks like you an ATI hybrid tuner (ATSC/clear QAM + analog) and two Silicondust HDHomeRun Prime tuners. Is that right?

First a couple of comments:
1. MediaPortal does not currently support tuning CableCard encrypted channels with any tuner, so that is why that won't work.
2. After you scan in your channels, you need to link them to the other tuners in your setup so that MP knows it can use any of your tuners to tune them. We call this mapping - info.
3. The channels with the red icons next to them are encrypted; the channels with the green icons should be watchable.

As above. Unfortunately MP doesn't yet support decrypting encrypted cable channels that require a CableCard. This is clearly mentioned on our supported card page in our wiki -->here<--.

Thank you for the response.

After much digging I was able to locate the mapping instructions in the forum, but I think having this answered will help a lot of other users.

The suggestions worked and I was able to both record and watch Live TV.

MediaPortal is the software I'd really like to use. I am very impressed with the look and feel as well as how stable the functions were. Setup is a pain, however. Especially with US Cable and Schedules Direct.

For me, CableCard support is a key requirement. I hope that support for CableCard based tuners is in the works. I will continue to monitor your progress and I will be very happy to beta test any new versions that support CableCard base tuners.

Well maybe you can help me out with this one. Similar symptom but different cause?

I've got my old desktop PC set up as a TV server (just to fiddle around with; I'm waiting on a home server system to take delivery). Using my workstation desktop PC as a client (waiting for an ION 3D HTPC client too...) but can't connect to the TV server.

Yes, there's a network connection
Yes, it does reach the server MySQL database (I can select a channel from the client and see how it's being activated on the client)
Yes, a videostream does reach the client PC (I can grab and watch it with VLT player)

But.. .no... MP client does not show anything. Doesn't seem to be able to grab the videostream. The 'No card available' message appears when I keep trying to select another channel or start TV.

Any suggestions?

Skollie -- Please use the debug function to collect your logs and post that zip file instead of the log... I'm in the US and have ATSC so I'm not fluent with the DVB-C format but would point out a few settings: CAM, and the Stop/Pause settings. It seems you have the correct server name/ID from the TV-Server included in the TV client or that'd give you a different (cannot connect) error. As I read your log I see 1.2.1 thus the tuner is set to Stop by default, that's what I use.

ranunez -- I too am leaning toward a HDHomeRun Prime box and realize MP doesn't have the (development) resources to code it right now. I keep mentioning that the basic functionality of tuning/recording "copy-freely" channels is being done now at MythTV -- in fact, the posted description on the newegg site says:

As for now I'm dabbling with Windows Media Center to prepare for using it for my CableCard shows. At least then I can dump DirecTV and save a few bucks by using MediaCom and their $1.99/mo CableCard (in addition to my programming).

Can you run MP from the debug startup where it will not load any plugins that are not a part of the core application. Also, are you running or do you have other applications trying to access the tuner? How about a remote control?

I'm not using a remote (yet)

At the moment i just have a server with a single client set up. I haven't got any plugins installed (other then the ones that come with the default installation)

I just can't get a grip on it: the server side seems to be workin fine. Tuner gets tuned, stream is being transmitted, VLC is able to show it, MP doesn't show anything. Been trying different decoders, turned off the firewall to no reveal

Un-installed MP client, did a registry cleanup, re-installed...still no go...

MediaPortal runs a windows "service" called TvService on the back-end, or the PC you'd installed the tuner card(s) and are hosting their MP TV-Server application. If the service doesn't start or is stopped then you can't tune/record. I'm at a loss as to how to advise you since you said the stream is available in the client... how can this message indicate the TvService failed yet be streaming to VLC?
