Steve, I think I know what are you going through (been there). :S Now let me give you my understanding of the issue as well as the way I fixed it for good. Yes, it is working very stable for me, no issues whatsoever. First of all if you are running single seat installation (I am) in the MP configuration click only "Wait for TV Server to satrt" option. Leave MP delay to 0. You really need one or the other option and the time delay is there for multiseat installations. Next the standby issues you have. I had pretty much simillar issues there as you describe. Also even if I configured system to use S3 (suspend) mode, my PC was hibernating :o . Anything I tried didn't solve the problem for me, then I had a lucky (for me at least) theory, that this is not only MP issue at all, Windows XP SP2 has some issues as well. I assumed that there is a key in the windows registry, which is not updated by MP configuration. What I mean is when you configure power scheduler to use S3 mode, the key in the registry still directing PC to use S4. So I installed MST tool, wich configured windows for S3. The MS has also option to start MP on resume which I selected as well. Since then my PC works as it supposed to do. Suggest you do what I did and see the result for yourself.
