Hi all I have looked around the FAQs etc for an answer and cannot find it hence this post.
I have just fitted a brand new Hauppauge WinTV-Nova TD-500 into my PC and have done a fresh install of XP Home + SP3. I have downloaded all updates, installed all software and drivers for the TV Card, then Mediaportal. I have also run the DVB fix.
When I start the MediaPortal Configuration it tells me no TV card is detected.
The WinTV software runs fine and there are no problems reported in Device Manager.
I have used previous versions of Mediaportal successfully with my old TV card, which was an older WinTV Nova-T-500.

Any suggestions as to what may be wrong? Is my new card unsupported?
Thanks!
:D

Sorry - I think I have found the answer. Looks like I need to replace a config file somewhere. I guess I was hoping that my card would be supported by default in MP V1.0.....
Sorry to waste your time.
BTW if anyone wants to post a quick guide on how to update the config, please feel free. Meantime I will keep reading the old threads for the info.
Cheers.

Sorry I still need help. I found some old posts (2007/8) relating to the new WinTV Nova TD-500 card but these were well before MP V1 was released. The fix then was to download and install a new carturecarddefinitions.xml file but that does not seem to work for MP V1 as there is no such file any more :(

I am really hoping someone out there can help - otherwise I will have to consider Vista (which I don't like as it can only download epg via the internet) or some other media center software......
Thanks again!

Update

I see this one has everyone stumped. Does no-one have the same card?
In desperation I have gone back to my old card (older WinTv Nova-T-500) and it is detected straight away. The only problem I find with this card is that I frequently cannot switch to certain channels (mainly BBC2 and Five). Instead all I get is a 'freeze frame' from the channel I was watching before I switched. Sometimes it takes six or seven goes before the channel will display, after which it's fine. I have a strong signal from a new outdoor aerial and a booster box so I don't think it's related to signal quality.
It was this problem that made me decide to try a newer card, in the hope that it would be better but (just my luck) MP won't recognise it at all.
So I would be grateful for ANY help to either....
- get MP to recognise my new card
or
- fix the 'screen freezes on current channel when I try and change to a new one' problem.
Thanks everyone.

Not sure about the TD500, but T500 does work, really strange that you are having problems with bbc2 and five, because they are the traditional "weak" channels on analogue, where i live five is just snow on analogue, so I would still suspect low signal on those channels, or they are tuning the wrong transmitter.

Just to confirm you where using the correct aerial input as per here for the TD500 Dual aerial inputs on Nova-TD-500 - Hauppauge UK Forum

Remember most digital transmitters are still running at a lower power because of the interference caused to the analogue signal, until they are shut down.

Also how does the hauppauge software fair with the same cards, if any breakup of video is seen on any channel, then that proves poor signal.

Hi PD thanks for the reply. Sorry I may have confused you with all my previous posts. I have now tried 2 different cards with the following results:-

    1. Nova TD-500 Model 289 - No card detected by MP. Works fine with WinTv. Works OK with Vista and Windows Media Center but my PC isn't really powerful enough and I hate the 'epg via internet' thing. I have double-checked the antenna is plugged into the correct socket.

    2. Older Nova-T-500 99101 LF Rev D8B5 - Detected fine by MP. Scans fine. Troublesome when selecting channel Five and BBC2.

I am trying to get one of the cards working 100% but as you can see, no luck so far. I was hoping the newer card might be more sensitive and might not have the same probs with C5/BBC2 but it won't work at all in MP.

Any advice? I would prefer to get the newer card working if at all possible.

How about TVServer, does that recognise the card, MP's inbuilt TV engine is not supported with newer cards, unless you add the required information yourself. see here.

When you installed, you need to accept the default options, which includes HD (if freeview ever goes down that path)

This makes the TVServer do the recordings\streaming\standby\resume for all TV related, Mediaportal is then used for watching\epg\enabling recordings + all the other multimedia functions.

but my PC isn't really powerful enough

You do need a directx gpu with at least 128mb of memory (preferably 256mb) for MP to run smoothly.

You may want to reconsider the MCE thing, as it will work nicely with lower spec machines, as no directx used.
