Follow my previous answer about checking if working in windows or reinstalling remote driver, if that does not work, please give us as much info about your remote setup as possible.

It is usually something outside mediaportal that causes this to happen, but we will help to resolve.

    Cheers

    Hey, thanks man :D

I'm using an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote:

Which is communicating with my HTPC via the standard microsoft media center pc infrared device (ignore the pic of the remote, i dont have it):
    microsoft-windows-vista-media-center-remote-control-ir-4701895

Using the latest stable build of media portal.

The buttons which i previously said work, only work in MediaPortal.

In my oppinion, it's just sending different commands to what the MCE XML file is expecting... however i have no idea how to edit this file, or how to enable logging and get a remote control debug log...

    :D

Problem resolved :) I installed the MCE Replacement Driver driver and HIP, and programmed it with all the codes from my remote. However, there does appear to be a new problem......

The only keys which work within MediaPortal are:
    Up / Down / Left / Right / OK / Back / Numberpad

The ones which i need in addition are:
Guide / Live TV / Pause / Stop / Play / Info / Volume / Channel + and - / Start button for loading MediaPortal...

I think i configured HIP correctly.... When ever i press any of the buttons which appear to work with MediaPortal, the taskbar icon for HIP flashes red... However, when i press the guide button (which i set as the master control) the task bar icon does not flash red, but does bring up the master control for HIP...

This leads me to believe that it's only passing particular commands into media portal..

    Any suggestions?

Nope, besides enabling under remotes as HID, Try irserversuite that supports a lot more than the mce replacement driver.

Moving this thread to the remotes forum, with a bit of luck and-81 (Aaron), will be able to help more.

    Cheers

    Cheers,

I tried that- didnt make any difference; the interesting thing is that i also turned off all the remote control options in mediaportal configuration, but the buttons i stated in my last post still work!

Several users have experienced non-working up down left right ok buttons with their MCE remote (also may have noticed that arrow keys and ENTER do not work on their keyboards) to scroll and select options in mediaportal (dec 2008, ver 1.0.0.0).

mediaportal needs to be "run as administrator" under Vista (despite the fact that the account you are using may already have admin rights). If not, the windows media center services are not shutdown when you run mediaportal therefore interfering with the up down left right ok (cursos) keys of your remote AND of your regular keyboard. Check the log files C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\login\MediaPortal.log and search for "keymap.xml". Just above the first instance you will see the corresponding error message if you do not use "run as administrator" for running mediaportal.
