For anyone else with this problem, this is what I do after every retune/reinstall:

Open SQL Server Management Studio Express and go to - Databases - TvLibrary - Tables - dbo-TuningDetail, open it, go to the lines for BBC THREE and CBBC Channel and set the pcrPid to 241 for both of them (one will already be 241, which one depends on whether you tuned before 7pm or after), find BBC Four and CBeebies and set the pcrPid to 201 for both of them. Now you have all 4 channels.

Hi,

I can see that this is an old topic, but I'm getting exactly the same behavior as described - Can't access BBC THREE/BBC FOUR channel before 7pm or CBBC/CBeebies after 7pm (get a 'No Audio or Video' message). I've looked in the database, as mentioned by the last post, but the pcrPid is set to zero for all channels, so not really sure what I should change to enable all four channels.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi wordblind

You will not get BBC3/BBC4 before 7pm because they do not broadcast before 7pm and you will not get CBBC/CBeebies after 7pm because they do not broadcast then.

CBBC/BBC3 share the same broadcast slot as do CBeebies/BBC4. If I remember rightly on satellite if you are watching CBeebies just before 7pm and leave the channel on it will change to BBC4 even though the tuning details will still say CBeebies. It certainly does this on Virgin Media cable as the kids sometimes leave CBeebies on and it turns into BBC4.

I seem to remember when I used DVB-S that I had to scan before 7pm and then again after 7pm to pick up all these channels. I don't seem to have this issue on DVB-T as it seems to pick up both regardless of the time I do the scan.

You actually don't realise how good MP\TVServer is at detecting these shared channels, if you try gbpvr or some other dvb viewing software, they have to be tuned as mew said, once during the day and once again at night.

Just wish they registered as being off air a bit quicker if you accidently tune them :)

Thanks for a fast response. Don't get me wrong, I've found MediaPortal to be fantastic...used to use DigiTV and that was a pile of big steaming doggy doo in comparison.

MediaPortal does pick up all four of the channels. My only real problem is that, if I set a recording for BBC Three to start at 7pm, the file being recorded is 0kb as it won't pick up the Audio or Video. If the recording is set to start at, say, 7:05pm then there's no problem. And, yeah, to make sure I record things if they start early or overrun, I've set recordings to start 5min before and carry on 5min after. Realise I could correct this by starting the recording at exactly 7pm (when CBBC becomes BBC THREE) but then I'll miss the start of some recordings on other channels. Was just wondering if there was some way to force MediaPortal to pick up the 'BBC Three isn't broadcasting just yet' message.

Change your pre recording default to 2 minutes and you should have no problems anymore.

Transmission starts a 6.57pm and i always found 2 minutes is ample and makes sure channel is on air, works the other way round for cbbc as well.

You mean 5min is being a little to greedy :)

Ta, I'll have a go trying 2min and keep an eye on it. Got a recording set for tomorrow evening. Didn't realise it started at 6:57pm.

Were actually very lucky in the UK, our TV broadcast times are pretty stable, I know Australia and New Zealand have atrocious discrepancies when a program should start, as do other parts of the world :)
