Hey,
I'm newly registered although I've been lurking for a while...
I've been on 2.3.0 singleseat on a homebuilt HTPC for ages, and very happy. With the advent of laptops for the kids (I thought that was for homework!!!), the possibility of freeSat, and a secondhand panel in our bedroom I decided to take the plunge and move on a bit.

I bought a secondhand HP DC7700 on flea-bay - tbh I couldn't build something of that quality and buy an OS for it for the money I spent.
.
Bugger - didn't realise it would be a Vista box. Anyway, struggled with Vista, especially playing media files from a Samba server, for ages - all fixed now I've got rid of that damn media prioritising service that kills the network

I now seem to have a system working pretty nicely, but with one major flaw - I can watch all channels, I can record multiple channels, I can connect remotely - everything works except that the box WILL NOT record BBC channels. I should say that the output files exist, but are 0KB in length.

I say not, but I did manage to get it to record once by disabling the pinnacle PCIe card (The USB Pinnacle did not exist at that point). I therefore mapped the BBC channels off the Pinnacle so that only the Compro (also the highest priority card) would have them assigned. Bingo? No...

I've attached log files - two lots of non-recording BBC. The first two zip files are -1:pinnacle disabled, 02:pinnacle enabled, 03:pinnacle enabled record non-BBC channel.
I did run up graphedit, and was vaguely puzzled to see that the Compro mpeg codec was allegedly being used, but not sure that this would affect recording only. As I say, I can watch every channel with no problem at all - it's just the recording.

Please accept my humble apologies if this has been solved elsewhere - I searched extensively before registering and posting!

Please also accept my profuse thanks for a great product :D

Forgot the zip files... DOH!

Here we go :sorry:

BTW - I notice lines like "04-12-2008 20:11:16.396 CPesPacket::Fullbuffer 726 726" between the start and stop record entries in the TS writer logfile for recordings that fail, but not for those that work. Couldn't find the string in a forum search. relevant?

Just off the top of my head, the tvserver is on a server pc, or is this the whole shebang that you use above as a singleseat.

FFDShow needs to be updated to the latest FFDShow Tryouts version, with audio codec MP1\MP2 changed to libavcodec, this allows access to some bbc radio stations that you would get no sound otherwise on.

    Going through logs now.

    Wow that's fast - thanks :)

Erm no this is the box in the front room - TV server and TV Client for watching Freeview, other machines in the house are running the TV client only. If that makes sense... the client implementation is really slick - I'm sure the wife got fed up with being dragged in to be impressed by it :D

The logs are all from this machine where I just attempted to record a few seconds worth of shows.
I'll get on the FFDshow - thought this was the latest version.

Can you change all recording formats to ts not mpeg and try again.

Also if you supply logs use the MP logs collecter and delete previous bits first then recreate your problem, besides spotting above mpeg, got totally lost on the amount of channel changes going on.

    Thanks

Sure - but I used the debug tool to launch MP on each occasion. I tought that cleaned up before. Sorry. Not sure where all the channel changes were from though.

Your right, you do seem to have the latest ffdshow from sourceforge, can you check the audio configuration for the MP1\MP2 codec change, you should be able to chose from 3 codecs if you click on the libmad default codec.

    Thanks

    LOL!

Right - I removed the pinnacle USB as it was just clouding the issues, and caused some inexplicable wierdness with the MCE remote. I also kept the channel changes down to a minimum. Like 1...

Ok - It seems I can record BBC as .ts just fine, with the pinnacle enabled or disabled. Three zips attached for .ts recordings, hopefully titles self-evident.

Reran the same exercise with recording set to .mpg. Can record ITV, but 0KB files for BBC. It also seems to take it about 15 seconds to put the red dot on the screen and start (trying) to record. Not a problem with ITV though. Again, log files attached.

I promise I ran the watchdog, did the pre-cleanup before each run. :)

Um - from the increasing size, do I gather the watchdog does not cleanup the server log?

Sorry for late reply, we know mpeg recording is broken under certain channels types, so until it is fixed please use .ts for recording, this just increases the file size by a couple of mb's per file, but at least we know it works and can be edited etc same as mpeg.
