Hi,

I have just finished setting up 1.2.2.0, or at least i thought I had. I had previously used an earlier version and was quite happy but windows 7 messed up and prompted a complete reinstall of the entire HTPC.

I thought I had it all working until i tried to play a MKV video file, it failed with a "could not ..... codec : AVC" i tested some other mkv files and these played fine, so, some did and some did not. After hunting around i found the "LAV filters" and installed them, configgured then as per a post i found in the forum. It made no difference. I went back to the Media Portal Configuration, and saw that my changes had not been saved for my codec choices

I reset them back to LAV and checked again and they were back to default....So i though perhaps LAV Wont work, so changed all the setting the FFDSHOW, just to see what happened, and lo and behold when i exitied coinfig, and went back in, the codec settings were back to their original.

All my other settings appear to be have been saved. All movies, picutres, and music folders are still set, it even save the change i made to from BASS to the other player. Just not the Codec/renderer settings...

So to sum up. Mediaportal will not save my codec settings in the configuration program..

any body got any ideas why?

I am an admin on the pc and the network? uac is turned off, and locked in a small box in the corner, the firewall is diabled, there is not antivirus, antimalware or spyware or malicious software detection software running..

Cheers in advance.

Toby

    Hi Toby

Did you reboot after install, and if you open MP config then use the "users files" link at the top, does the folder it takes you too contain a mediaportal.xml, which I do suspect is there.

Otherwise we would need logs (see sig)

    Cheers

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    In answer to your questions.

When i discovered this I had not rebooted, and did not until today.

and yes the mediaportal.xml file is there.

However, and I really need to do a sanity check on myself now, it is all working as it should do, by this i mean it is now saving the configuration properly.

The only thing that springs to mind is the reboot since yesterday. Yesterday when I discovered this, i was a bit suprised because the "ok" and "Cancel" buttons were not on the mediaportal configuration screen, so I was clicking the "X" in the top right hand corner, i though it odd, that there were no buttons to apply the changes, but at yesterday i could not honestly remember if they should be there or not. It was not until I went back in today and saw them, and thought "where the heck were they yesterday". But since they have come back from whereever it was they went to, the configuarations are saving, and I can now use the "LAV" filters, and I can even play the MKV files I could not yesterday, so all is happy and rosy in the world of my HTPC....apart from I have a small seciton at the top where there appears to be some tearing, i'll go and look at the trouble shooting and see if i can figure out how to get rid of it, it's not much, just the top couple of lines, and this was there before i try used to LAV filters.

Thanks again for the prompt reply.

    Toby

Hi, I had tearing when i was on Win7 Home basic. The lack of Aero made the video tearaing. Solution was to install home premium or better with Aero support. Maybe it's your issue

The registry entries do not get properly initiated until after a reboot for filters, so if uninstalling or reinstalling, which is always wise to do, otherwise strange things occur as you found.

yes, Aero needs to be enabled, also make sure you enable cuvid acceleration in LAV video settings found in your START menu.

When you say latest nvidia drivers, hope you mean 290.xx, 28x.xx series have major issues, or go back to the 27x.xx ones
