if you finally find some time it would be great if we can team up and finalize the provider-independent portions of the plugin, especially the message filter part (you began working on).
Afraid it's unlikely still for quite a while. Work is busy due to a product launch - constant round of demos and the like. I really don't want to see any more code that I absolutely have to right now! Hope you understand.
+ User notification of incoming message
Missing: click on popup to read the actual message
Missing: message number threshold for notification

provide your POP3 password when asked for one
Please re-create accounts from scratch.
You can delete the following tables in database 'messaging' if you want to save up some disk space: 'account' and 'message'.
My free time is really limited these days, I couldn't even secure one hour over the past two wkends to carry on what I planned to code.
So (for the baker's dozen people who seem to use this plugin) what do you wish to happen next, in the very short term?
-SMTP (core code is here, GUI needed)
-IMAP (core code is here, GUI needed, may require structural POP3 changes)
-Hotmail (nothing coded)
-reading/saving attachments (need to comply with the new post-0.2.1 methods for playing multimedia files)
-message searching/filtering (nothing coded)
please state your preferences,
Regarding previous posts it's fairly unclear if I shall go with smtp or imap or hotmail
Well for me my vote is for automatic background message searching/filtering with notifications.
I think the main strength of having the email plugin on the htpc is to get notifications of the type "Bob has emailed you" or "Your bid on ebay item xxxx needs attention".
As to the limited number of people that seem to be interested in the plugin in general - I think if it was part of SVN you'd get much more feedback - I can't believe it wouldn't be a major used plugin - especially with the filtering/notification stuff above
I belive this is a much appritiated plugin, and should (like many other plugins) be apart of the installer package (plugins are usually not that big in file size).
Reading mail expands the usability of MP - along with Intrenett browsing and MSN Messager (w/WebCam). It could perhaps be an update of the (my) news-plugin (which frankly could need a major update) by using e-mail subrscription?
You work is appritiated - and I belive this plugin will (eventually) be an important part of MP.
I have no problem at all with the semi-confidentiality of the plugin: only half-a-dozen of users using it and reporting their experience is quite enough for such a specialized plugin. Maybe in a distant future this plugin will be mature enough to put Agree's plugin out to pasture. In this case I'll make a proposal for merging the code in SVN then. Not before.
Count me as another user if you continued your work and added support for hotmail. But i understand your position, its a lot of work for only a handful of users.
