Major problems with Hauppage Nova-T 500 card.
using the drivers available from Hauppage site.

i keep getting stutter in LiveTV. not constant but when checking logs there always seems to be an EPG grab related entry.

i have tried changing codec and that has made no difference.

on checking CPU load, it seems quite high, hovering between 44% and 60% and sometimes staying at 100% for quite some time.

i'm trying to work out what is causing this. my thoughts are that it has to be one of the following 3 at fault

1) tv card or drivers
2) intel chipset related
3) on-board intel vga related

i have another system with the same CPU and less memory and that runs fine. it has a different TV card and has nvidia chipset and vga on it.

can anyone suggest things to try?
are there alternative drivers for the tv card? hauppage site only has one version available.

this has happened on al SVN builds that have been released over the past 3 weeks or so. and if i remember correctly it also happened on stable 0.2.0.4.

"my videos" etc doesn't have any stutter at all.

attached logs although not sure if this will tell anything so far.

I also have the Nova-t-500 and am experiencing the exact same problem. 100% cpu usage which sometimes lasts for ages and this makes the tv picture freeze and then appear to fast forward as it catches up with the audio - very annoying.

I also have a HVR-1300 card which works flawlessly - no cpu spikes at all.

Have rebuilt my machine with new mobo and cpu and it still happens. Taken all other PCI cards out, moved slots, everything...

Hope you find a solution. If you do and it's before me, let me know

i can't quite pin-point the exact problem.. it's either driver problem or chipset problem.

i have stuck the Nova-T 500 in a windows 2003 server running the MP tv server.. and the live tv is perfect.

so the problem is either the driver in Windows XP... or an intel chipset issue (the server has the nforce2 chipset)

When you get the 100% cpu usage, what is causing it in Task Manager? When I check, it is "System" that is hogging the CPU and not Mediaportal. I thought it might be down to the USB drivers for the card so tried the latest USB drivers from Via but that didn't really do anything

I had that with my Nova T 500 and pinpointed it to usbport.sys in the system thread (using sysinternals process explorer, now a microsoft product) using almost all CPU time... (funny enough, when stopping it manually in sysinternal process explorer, no more stutter, but i couldn't stop the PC anymore...)

I am running XP SP2. Usbport.sys was version 5.1.2600.2180 if i recall correctly.

On my system, getting a newer usbport.sys from Microsoft (such as the one you get by installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918005/en-us ) fixed the problem.

I since changed it to a Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Pro PCI with similar functionnalities but not problem whatsoever (and it doesn't get redected when coming out of standby, so you don't have to restart MediaPortal...)

Well it seems to be working great so far! no more 100% cpu from the "System" thread. Fingers crossed it's working now, but it's still early days and I've thought it's been fixed before. Will keep you posted.
