MediaPortal Skin: default blue and streamedmp

Hello,

I'm concerned about burn in and was wondering what options are out there to prevent it. I'm aware of Screen Control and the MP screen saver but I don't want to blank output to my TV. I want to continue to see pics and info but have it move periodically.

In particular, the Now Playing screen when playing music. The background changes regularly with fan art which is great. But the bottom banner with current and next song information as well as the clock/recording notification in the upper left are static and never move or change. This could be a problem.

With Windows Media Center on Win7, the track's text info would switch sides of the screen every so often. That along with the scrolling background of cover art ensured that the entire screen was always changing every so often. This currently doesn't appear to be possible with Media Portal but I'm hoping I am missing something.

Thanks for any info.

Mike

I'm resurecting this thread as I'm looking for something similar and found this in the search.

Is there any change in the status of this? Can the skin be set to move certain sections of Now Playing to stop them burning in?

Thanks

You could modify the skin files of the now playing skin to do something like that.

That's not very user friendly. I was hoping MP2 would address this but judging by your comment I fear not.

Out of curiosity, how exactly would this work? Modify the files while MP is running? Will it detect that change and re-render? Even if that is the case I wouldn't imagine it would provide nice smooth transitions or animations.

I'm really suprised this isn't more of an issue for people. Maybe everyone uses LCD TVs, but what about plasma. OLEDs, although not popular yet, are even more susceptible.

I'd really love to see a feature like this added to MP. If others agree, please chime in and perhaps someone will hear.

    Thanks.

I just meant that there is no feature like that yet.

To do this you can add such a feature (if you like to code XML skin files) yourself. To do this, you would add some animation entries to the now playing XML file (just once). These would then render next time you open the screen. E. g. You could duplicate the controls and add opposing animations based on time.

See the wiki on skin coding. Otherwise contact the creator of your favourite skin with this request.

I have noticed on my (1 year old Pansonic plasm) the clock has burned in slightly. The clock keeps the same position on most of the screens so this is why.

I'm going to comment the 'commom clock.xml' to avoid this from now - I have a digital clock plugin if I need one anyway.

I obviously spend FAR too much time letting the TV play in the window rather than full size :D.
