That truly is a lot to list!

Basically I launch media portal and get a white background (or no background) and the menu options that dont work. Ive checked my logs and the error I'm seeing here is:

2009-03-02 22:52:47.822907 [ERROR][MPMain]: Exception :Error in the application.

at Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Device.Present()
at MediaPortalApp.Render(Single timePassed)

(I'll attach logs as well)

I know my system meets all of the requirements, but cant think of what else to look for here.

DXDiag tells me that I have over the 128Mb required:

Display Memory: 551 MB
Dedicated Memory: 248 MB
Shared Memory: 303 MB

What am I missing here guys? Can anyone help me out?

Make sure there is no Asus software running, you also need to be running Aero enabled, otherwise no hardware acceleration is applied to the card.
Make sure 96dpi is set for fonts.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi there PD & thanks for the resopnse :)

Just checked my machine and I can confirm that windows is set to 96dpi with Aero.

the only ASUS software I have on the machine was the audio drivers (although technically, they're Realtek...)

One point to confirm- It was the 'windows icon dpi' setting and not something inside of media portal?

    Hi guys,

I've tried changing the skins to both monochrome and steamedMP and also lowered the rez to something hillariously large :D

Undortunatly I'm still not seeing any menu's at all.

I get a plain white screen with a menu bar and thats my lot!

I'm attaching my latest logs to see if anyone can make sense of them.

I'm going to see if I can play with Ntune a bit and try to get some extra juice outa the card, but not sure if this is going to give any joy.

Any other ideas would me most welcome! :)

    ty in advance!

Reinstall the drivers, possibly the card may have a fault on it that will not show up until its put under pressure, but reinstall directx etc, also check bios settings for card, make sure if agp, then that is selected, with the correct x value (max = 4x or 8x, later preferred).

This is the third build (I'm getting to be a dab-hand at it now!). Latest drivers direct from the manufacturer, and then again direct from NVIDIA (on seperate build attempts). The card's configured properly and hasn't ever given me any trouble with games or other media apps.

I'm going to stress test it over night just to make sure everything checks out though (although I have a feeling it'll be fine).

Just to confirm something, my old pc which my daughter uses for games is a 6600gt with 128mb ram, and MP1.0 works fine (could not remember 128 or 256, so checked), with system ram of 2gb.
Also remember having to manually change the agp setting in the giga-byte motherboard bios, but if you say they are fine, I believe you :)

Just cannot explain whats failing D3D memory wise

    Hi,
There is one thing in your log, MediaPortal already running - which means you restore from tray so:
    1. disable in MP Configuration -> General -> Minimize to tray on startup(if enabled)
    2. disable in same place -> Minimize to tray on GUI Exit (if enabled)

& try again, just need to figure out whats causing this & it's good if you can attach new logs after the test, ofc if it still fails

    Regards
    Roy
