Since a couple of weeks I use MediaPortal. A good choice compared to VMC. Everything runs fine and smooth, including TV. One odd issue puzzles me a bit though:

I have Vista set up to suspend after 120 minutes. If MediaPortal is running, Vista does try to suspend after the 120 min. Apparently MP is giving Vista a signal not to do it, so Vista continues. When this happens when watching a movie, the movie halts for a few seconds and then continues.
When the movie ends, and more then 120 minutes have passed, Vista immediately suspends. As if Vista was waiting for the movie to end.

This behaviour strikes me as kind of odd. It is as if Vista doesn't register a program is running, so there is no need to suspend.
As soon as Vista wants to suspend, MP seems to send a signal it shouldn't. So the suspend action is stopped halfway and MP (and the movie) continue. It did interfere though.
As soon as the movie is stopped, Vista immediately suspends. Nothing the user can do to prevent it.

    Is this by design?

Vista power settings should be disabled.

Power settings are controlled by TVServer\powerscheduler and Mediaportal\powerscheduler client plugin, This is if you have TVServer installed.
    TV-Server/Configuration/Plugins/PowerScheduler - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

Or just powerscheduler within mediaportal if TVServer not installed.

For Vista, you need to add something to stop standby outside MP running, just add them to the process tab, best ones for this are firefox of internet explorer.

This plugin doesn't seem to register a DVD is playing. MP goes into standby while running a DVD. Did I miss a setting? I configured the plugin in TV Server Configuration (server/client on same pc). Suspending the system after 30 minutes, works as it should. Watching a movie from HDD gives no issue, but when watching a DVD my system suspends after 30 minutes.

Did you enable the powerscheduler client plugin and set for the same time + only on home screen :), this is under the Mediaportal config\plugins and replaces the standard inbuilt powerscheduler when TVServer is installed.

If you have, then there seems to be a problem :(

No i did not because in the documentation was this:

Make sure the original !PowerScheduler plugin is disabled.

Enable the plugin called PowerScheduler client plugin.

So I was under the impression the PowerScheduler plugin in the Config was the one I should not enable. I see I should now so will config it. I guess two plugins are necessary because Client and TV Server are different programs?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Phew glad about that, should have no more problems with that hopefully :)

Should make the documentation a bit more explicit that both plugins are required for singleseat installations, nice big letters or put in red, will have look ;)

Well, found out there's a difference in a 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 upgrade and a clean 1.0.2 installation. My laptop has an upgraded MP version. To play around with and to learn or test skins with. My HTPC has a clean 1.0.2 install. I knew about the client plugin, but in my laptop install the plugin is called "PowerScheduler". Therefore I thought it to be the plugin I should disable. Checking the HTPC clean install, the plugin is indeed the "PowerScheduler client" plugin. The one that also should be enabled.

Yes, having to enable two plugins for the same purpose might be a bit confusing. But if different installs or installation methods show different plugins, it gets more confusing.

Set it up as suggested, but MP is not going in to suspend ever anymore. Only way to suspend it is using the remote. No suspend configured in Vista, just in the TV Server and client config. It seems to be related to the client plugin since the PC will suspend if just the TV Server plugin is configured. Problem in that case it will suspend during playback. As soon as the client plugin is configured that will not happen, but it never goes in to suspend anymore.
