Ok Some of the buttons do work..

However i cannot get the guide to come up with the guide button
the number buttons are not right Its weird... I have tried to remap
and remap but obviously i am doing something wrong and no matter
how i program the remote it does the same thing... It is really strange.
I have been working with computers since 1982 with a timex sinclair 1000
i am not a noob to hardware... However i am a newb to mediaportal... I
appreciate the reply thank you very much for taking interest.. I ordered
a windows vista/7 mce certified remote for the hell of it just so i have the
right remote and not a universal it should be here wed... But for the life
of me i know you can tune this software especially with all the plugins and
what not it has... It is obviously me and not the programs fault... Any help
would be appreciated thank you so much..

Mondo

    Hi Mondo

    However i cannot get the guide to come up with the guide button
    There is no built in shortcut for bringing up the guide so your button won't work. I recommend you install the Shortcut'r plugin to create a shortcut to the guide.

    the number buttons are not right
    I'm guessing they would come right if you disable "select channel by index (non-US)" (details here). That trips up a lot of newcomers.

    PS: I don't understand why you would struggle for 5 days by yourself before asking for help. It pays to just give up and ask for help around here. ;)

    Hi again Mondo

    That's great to hear! :)
    Regarding Shortcutter...
    The screenshot in the link that I posted above gives you at least a bit of an idea. You define shortcuts in the configuration for the plugin (within MP configuration - plugins section I think). Enter a name for the shortcut, the key that you want to use to get to the section (in your case it would be whatever key combination the EPG button generates), then lastly you enter the window ID for the section that the shortcut is meant to take you to. A list of window IDs can be found in the wiki -->here<--. For TV EPG you'd use 600. If the window ID is not listed then you can get it by examining the skin file itself. Skin files are in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Skin\<name of skin> ... (I think - sorry I'm at work at the moment). Find the XML file corresponding with the window/section in MP (maybe a little guess work involved there). After you've found it, open it in any text editor to find the window ID. Reusing the TV EPG example (skin file called mytvguide.xml):

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <window>
    <id>600</id>
    <defaultcontrol>2</defaultcontrol>
    <allowoverlay>no</allowoverlay>
    <controls>
    <control>
    ...

    As you can see, the ID is 600.

    Hope that helps!

    :)

    I've used an Harmony remote for years in/on Mediaportal. Standard button layout when configured as an Microsoft mediacenter-pc remote in the Harmony software always worked for me. Didn't have to change anything in MP (also for the guide button).

    If you still want to use the Harmony remote, this is what I did:
    Add a new device. There you will have to choose:
    Device: mediacenter pc
    Brand: Microsoft
    Model: MCE
