So I have MP running on a server with output to a 4:3 tv. It rocks.
But last night I finally bought a panasonic HDTV.
As I understand it, this TV has a 16:9 display. So here is my question.
What resolution should I run the MP server for this format. I understand that I need to us a wide skin, but what resolution.
If I do some simple math, a 1024 wide display needs a 576 height. I don't see that in the display options. any thoughts.

You should try to set your video card to output at the native resolution of your Panasonic HDTV - then choose a skin in MediaPortal to match (or exceed) that resolution.

1024 x 576 is 16:9, but it is only standard definition. Presumably, your HDTV is cable of displaying in a higher resolution?

Find the native resolution of your panel and post it here, that should help us find a way to help (or make us envy your TV!)

    Hi,

as moullas said. It depends on the resolutions which your new TV supports. This also often depends which connection you use (HDMI / DVI / VGA).

Some TV only support the full native resolution (eg. 1366x768) on the VGA input.
On the HDMI / DVI input often 720p is the correct resolution (1280 x 720).
If your TV is a plasma, it may be, that you have a native resolution of 1024 x 1024 or something similar not being 16:9. The reason is, that those TVs often do not have square, but rectangual pixels.

So it would help us to know the exact model and connection you are using.

    HTH,
    Flip.

    ok.
So I picked up the TV last night.
    Its a Panasonic TH-42PX60U.
I started reading the manual. but I have not found a statement around native resolution yet. I will keep looking. I assume however if the units native resolution is say 1024 x 768 then thats the display output for the video card and I use a wide format skin.
    Sounds reasonable anyway.
