The company etc is only used for sorting at the moment, but of course I should do as you suggest and let them be visible to skinners. Great idea :D

The description background is the box that is displayed behind the text that is entered in the description field of a game, and it is only shown when a game has a description. I should probably do some kind of check and only show it if it is defined in the skin I guess.

I tried this plugin the other day but i couldn't use it unfortunately.

The reason was that i have MP setup to be always on top, when i start a PSX game with this plugin it does start but is hidden by MP.

Of course i could untick the MP on top setting but this tends to reveal other stuff happening on the computer and as it is a dedicated HTPC thats not really the look i'm after

I remember when i previously used My programs to launch games that it had a setting to "hide MP" or somesuch whilst playing a game, this allowed MP always on top but also allowed a game to take over the screen whilst it was running.

Would it be possible to have this sort of solution as part of My emulators? If so that would be great as it looks like a very handy plugin.

Thanks.

another sugestion: emulator settings (like executabla paths, rom paths etc etc should be universal for future versions of myemulators and there should be possibility to save this file separatelly in txt or xml file (i.e. for reinstall mp) because at now wen i just delete database file i must again spend 10-15 minutes for add all my emulators :)

Unfortunately, you must delete the database file every time with the SVN version (at least until I release it as a sharp version, after that I will build in an upgrader so that the content of the database is persistent). I might do something like you suggest in the future.

I second Clair's suggestion! It would be great if emulator settings, database content etc. could be shared amongst MyEmulator users. There's no way I am able to correctly fill the database for the countless roms I have. Together we could though.

Content for each system with proper name, company etc... ready to be downloaded. I'd really love that. :)

You offer us the possibility to exchange these things and the community will add the content! ;)

btw.. I tried the new beta tday and I am very impressed with what you've done. I'll see if I can update the configurations post as soon as you release the final version.

Belive me or not.... many options for myemulator such as my favourities, settings thumbs etc. etc i just write on paper because of recently reinstall MP or MyEmulators. AT NOW there are NO SENSE for grading 20 000 games (or more) if after reinstall with new version MP / MyEmu i must do it again. We need something like database or list in every rom folder wit informations of grade game content folder, what game are favourite etc etc. Additionaly if there will be a txt config who i just could put into a myemulators folder and all my configs juest be restored from it.

Bugs

Still Flashing screen (in RC4 too)

Propositions:

-Default work folder should be set as exe folder (if someone have oter folder then just set other) in my case ALL my emulators work folders are folders with exe/bat file.
-Add *.zip to ALL rom extensions default by exe file
-Possibility of EXPORT/IMPORT files in rom folders to database

Code:
3,N,Ataroid.atr,Breakout,1985
4,F,Air Strike II.atr,Arcade/Strategy,1983
4,F,Aztec Challenge.atr,Platform,1983
5,F,Cavernia.atr,Platform,1990
its only proposition of txt file with eported data it could be a "," or "tab" or csv file
Grade(0 not gradet yet),favourite(F) or not (N),Romname,Gametype,Year

Other solution... every added data could be inserted after a kind of marker i.e

Code:
[G]4[F]1[N]007 - The Living Daylights.atr[GNR]Shooter[Y]1987[C]
[G]5[F]1[N]Ace of Aces.atr[GNR]Simulator[Y]1985[C]Accolade
[G]0[F]0[N]Air Rescue.atr[GNR]Shooter[Y]1984[C]

[G] grade - 0 to 6 (0 no grade 6 max grade)
[F] favourite (0 no 1 yes)
[RN] Rom name
[GNR] genre
[Y] year
[C] company

if this list will be able to import/export fromdatabase we will have possibility to exchange lists and fast restore our game settings.

its only sugestion im not a programmer and i dont know ow it works ;)

someone use thumbs for the games in the new version?

I have reinstalled the old 2.0 version, configured one emulator, copy the thumb of the emulator and the games.
When I run myEmulator I can see all the thumbs, the emulator and the games. All ok.

Then I update the new version, and now I can see the thumb of the emulator but the games don't appears.
The emulator has the same name CPS1, and all the thumbs are in the same folder.

I can't understand.

Clair, I think it's easier search a database of roms and import Romname,Gametype,Year...
It's difficult to find the database but if you want to write a file for 20000 games...

Try to update your games whit this post, is easy (thx emphatic):

I agree with you and have been thinking of creating a website to gather all this information about both emulators and games and connect My Emulators to it. I sent a message to the MP forum admin a month ago or so, because I had the idea that to be able to upload information to the website one would have to be a member of this forum (so I asked if I could validate users against the MP forum somehow) but I haven't gotten an answer so I stopped thinking about it. Now that you bring it up, I'm getting excited about it again.

I will probably not be able to fix the bugs in a couple of weeks since I am currently on the road. I haven't forgotten of what was written in the previous posts, I just haven't had the time yet. What I've had time to do though is to allow the skinners to show the meta data about the game, so the latest SVN version you can skin to:

show Year, by adding a label with id 41
show Genre, by adding a label with id 42
show Company, by adding a label with id 43

Also, it should not crash when any of these, or the description label, is missing.

Absolutely right. I would love to have all info on games in MP but right now there's no point. It would be lost after the first update.

An online database would be the ultimate way to do this... true. MyMusic and MyVideos work wonderful like that, as does the My-TVseries plugin. However, creating something like that is many times more difficult and costs a lot more resources. One would have to maintain an online database, host it somewhere and update it. It is probably also more difficult to add that kind of functionality to MyEmulators.
With file based import/export functionality the cost and complexity involved is lower. As such it would be a practical first step to achieving online database synchronization.

The community could fill the database together: No one will be able to fill in all info on thousands of roms and isos on his own. However, if twenty people work on it for a while it could be obtainable. We could post the files in a seperate thread on this forum... We could start doing that as soon as Chreekar adds the functionality. An online database would still be an awesome possibility later on.

My point: add simple file-based import/export functionality now and use those files later on if online database synchronization becomes feasible. Perhaps there is a way to use offlinelist/ClrMame/RomCenter .dat files to get us started? Perhaps make MyEmulator compatible with those files? A lot of information on roms is already out there... no point in doing it all over again. :p

examples:
offlinelist .dat files
no-intro .dat files
ADVANsCEne GBA, NDS & PSP DAT's

Put the thumbs in your root folder for "Games" instead of one dedicated to CPS1. Was changed very recently. All your rom-thumbs in the same place, I guess.
