MediaPortal 0.2.2:
MediaPortal default:
Windows XP SP2:

Hey guys i'm new to MediaPortal and the forums so please excuse my ignorance but I'm trying to get MediaPortal to output to my tv.
I have a ATI RADEON 9200 graphics card which has the ability to output to t.v. as another monitor (as i'm sure most of you have this ability) and I can't find any part of MediaPortal which will let me send it to another monitor or open it in both screens or just the t.v. one. Is there something i've done wrong? I've tried running the t.v. as a clone of my primary monitor but my primary monitor is 1280*1024 and the t.v. output will only go as far as 1024*768 so it won't do it. Anyone know a workaround or anything similar?
Thanks,
J3bu

I have a similar setup to what you are trying to do.I have and ati1600 with an lcd monitor and my hdtv(upstairs)connected by component cables. The only way I can get MP to work so far is add a hot key in ati catalyst to swap display mapping to change secondary monitor to primary. The hot key is set to one of the buttons on my firefly remote. This had been working okay for me but now when ever I close MP my task bar is missing untill I reboot. I did find this thread on this same sort of topic but I havn't had time to read through it. Let me know if it works

I have an ATI X800 pro graphics card, and in the ATI control center, if you go to displays manager, you can clone your main monitor to output to the tv, if both connected to the graphics card. As i haven't got a long enough lead to test this yet, I am unsure if it does what I am hoping, that I can see the same on my tv, as I can on my pc monitor

The problem isn't with MediaPortal but with DirectX. DX can only accelerate the primary monitor output on a card, as MediaPortal relies heavily on DX, this limitation applies to it too.

However, if you use two cards, both of them will have DirectX acceleration so MP could be used on the primary output of either of them without a problem. Although is would be a pretty unusual setup these days, so there is no option to switch displays in MP setup.

EDIT: this has been brought up on man occations and there are some work arounds if you serach about. I don't know how successful the tricks are thought

It aint verry difficult to use the second virtual card, wich most people have with modern video cards, with DirectX .. So i realy dont understand why there isnt an option to choose which card you want to use .. i would realy like it ..

some time back i changed somewhere around 10 lines of code to get media portal to use my second videocard/monitor.. it wass quite buggy when switching from and to fullscreen thou .. didnt have time to make it configurable and working without the quite often crashes then..

but what i am trying to say .. It can be done for most people !

and i think it would make quite a lot of us happy ..

If you got it (more or less) to work, why don't you explain what you did to an MP developer (not me ;)) . Either somewhere in the forum, or even better, in IRC. I'm sure that together you can make it work.

Just stating that it is possible doesn't help us much...

Where can i talk to a "MP developer"?
I have made some changes to the TVengine3 to get my NVTV card to work. Posted those changes on sourceforge and havent heard anything about it yet .. I understand that the developers are verry bussy and i do apriciate their work. But at least some reply about why it isnt applied to the SVN version would be appreciated. (wrong method of fix? couses problems with other cards?) Until that patch is applied to SVN i am not verry motivated to post another fix for something a lot less important.

I talked to Frodo about your patch. He already had a look at it and tried to integrate it, but he reversed the changes because it broke support for other cards. He forgot to give you feedback on it.

If you want to talk to him (or other devs), come to IRC. He is often online, but always very busy, so be patient. If he doesn't answer you, you can ask for me. I'm often online (during weekdays), but most of the time not in the #mediaportal channel...

If you don't have an IRC client, you can use the web access: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/webirc.html. Be sure to use the same nick name, so I can recognise you....

    Thanks for the info.

I will try to implement my changes in a different way. And look if i can talk with Frodo on IRC if he still knows what method coused the problems. I suppose it was the "bool ConnectMultiplexer(" .. but would like to know that for sure.

After my card is supported officialy, i will try to change mediaportal again to support a (virtual)second videocard with its primary monitor..

My tv card is supported now :) in the SVN version so now i made support for displaying on the second screen.

I have now posted a patch on sourceforge that gives the abillety to chose a monitor on witch to display MP.
    https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1750856&group_id=107397&atid=647927

Thou it might only work for users with a ATI card.. internally the patch uses the secondary virtual adapter to display on the second screen, and as i have heard NVidia does not have such a secondary adapter.. thou if someone would like to try it pleas do..

i need people to test the patch and report it working or failing before it will be incorperated in the SVN version .. please post questions about the patch in the folowing thread
