Have set up my HTPC with MediaPortal and everything is running, but I'm having to use my keyboard and mouse to navigate at the moment which isn't ideal.

I've been wondering which remote is best and have stumbled across this very cheap One-For-All remote. Thing is, I don't have an IR receiver.

Is it a case of buying any IR receiver, or does it have to be specific? And would this then work with MediaPortal?

If anyone could point me in the direciton of a suitable IR receiver, it'd be much appreciated. Cheers.

Or perhaps just recommendations for any remote and IR combo? Thanks.

Not wanting to disagree with Ray, but I have an One For All remote (this one) and it really is remarkably good (although the instructions are a little wanting in places). I have had it for a year now and the build quality has really stood up the that use (I see no reason why it won't keep going for years). It runs macros too, so I just press one button to turn on everything.

It has a learning function so can learn any remote output, so even if you don't have a commonly used remote it will still work (for example, if you have IR dim-able lights in the room or something). Rather than using the inbuilt code system to automatically configure the remote, I have basically used the learning function to learn all the different buttons for each of the devices I control so that they all effectively appear as a single device on the remote. That way I can adjust the Amp volume and change channel in MediaPortal without switching from AMP mode to PC mode on the remote (both are set up under TV to improve the WAF).

If you were to get one of these and also buy a bog standard MCE remote, it will work fine (I use mine with my IMon remote).

I would definitely get one of these again without question, especially now that they sell for under £15! I wouldn't risk getting the cheaper All For One remotes though (not that I have ever used one, but I don't think it would work as well).

If you get an Microsoft MCE remote receiver you can use almost every universal remote for it.
I use a logitech Harmony 600 to control my Sony TV Onkyo receiver an HTPC.

An other nice one which i used for years is a ati wonder remote it is using RF so you don`t have to aim. But with replacing 5 remotes on the table the harmony is more WAF proof.

I have the standard Microsoft MCE remote IR receiver and a Logitech Harmony One remote, I also have a Hauppauge MCE IR receiver and remote that works well.
