I'm thinking of writing plugin or plugins to access online video sites like such as youtube and google video within mediaportal. I would like to know if there is any interest for this kind of plugin.

Update 01/28/08 - version 0.32

- fixed Youtube
- Released as MPI file

Update 01/08/08 - version 0.31( Works with SVN 16540+)
- Updated Youtube code to use the new api

- Added option to use Mplayer to play videos
- minor cleanup on the configuration

Update 09/10/07 - version 0.30
- Added Sites: Rocketboom, Break, livevideo, and MSN SoapBox
- Added More apple Categories: Weekend Box Office, Openings, Exclusives, and Featured
- Added option to set max apple trailer quality up to 1080p!!! HD trailers take a while to stream.
- Added option to view all available trailers for a movie
- Added new trailer page similar to the one in My Trailers
- Updated Flv Player to 3.11
- Saving setting to mediaportal.xml instead of onlinevideosettings.xml
- Site info moved to OnlineVideoSites.xml
- fixed trailer download saving as .flv
- fixed download "site". can now view mov and flv files
- Including the latest VideoLan plugin dll(works much better than version 0.8)

Update 08/24/07- version 0.29
- Fixed Apple Trailers

Update 08/23/07- version 0.28
- Fixed Youtube videos not playing because of a change on the youtube site

Update 08/23/07 - version 0.27

1) Added Local favorites database
- Favorites from any site can be added
- Favorites can be viewed by site
- Favorites can be searched

2) Search feature added to AppleTrailers (a little slow since it has to dowload each feed then search the feeds)

3) Using new flv player from http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player

4) Fixed thumbnails always downloading bug

5) jump to a couple sec later in video added using the <-- --> arrows when watching a video in fullscreen

6) Added new categories for the following sites: Youtube,VidiLife,Stage6, GameTrailers, and Metacafe

7) Added search for metacafe

8) Added an experimental rss parser for sites that provide direct links to videos like http://channel9.msdn.com/rss.aspx?ShowID=1

9) Additional video info displayed such as tags, length, and description. this info is not displayed for AppleTrailers because of the amount of time it takes to get that info.(a different xml has to be fetched and parsed for each movie)

10) Saving view on exit for next session

Update 07/26/07
-Youtube fixed
-Configuration screen added
- The thumbnail directory created if it doesn't exist
- Site can be enabled/disabled through the configuration screen.

The source code can be found in the MP-Plugins project at http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp-plugins/

Update 08/15/2006
Here is another beta to play around with.
This version includes the following additions:
- Thumbnails for videos are downloaded and displayed
- Videos can now be downloaded(Change the location of the download in the OnlineVideoSettings.xml under site id 99)
- Jump Forward and Jump backward during playback is now supported(Doesn't work with all videos. Some videos have missing metadata)
- Very basic filter added. It checks the title and description for any of the filter words. If the a match is found that video is not displayed in the list. The search string is also checked against the filter words. To add filter words, open the OnlineVideoSettings.xml
- More YouTube categories added

Update 08/09/2006:
Here is a beta version to play with.
Dowload here.

Macromedia Flash is required. Flash has to be installed using Internet explorer or else the plugin won't find it.
Don't forget to enable the FlvPlayer in MP's Configuration under plugins.

This plugin is driven by an xml file called OnlineVideoSettings.xml. This file contains the video sites, the site's categories and an rss feed link for each category. The OnlineVideoSettings.xml can be edited to add or remove categories. Only the sites in the xml file are supported. More sites will be added later.

The following sites are currently supported:
- YouTube
- Google Video
- Grouper
- MetaCafe
- DailyMotion

Future Plans include:
- Support for more sites
- Video thumbnail images
- Adding videos to favorites

of course I'll release the source code.

    Update:
So far I'm able play videos from youtube, google videos and grouper in MP. I need to add the different categories, favorites and a screen to play the videos. Some videos look terrible in fullscreen and the overlay window is just too small. I'm going to add a screen similar to the one from "My Tv".
