    Summary:
Option in TVE3 to select default audio stream

    Description:
With the latest SVNs, audio switching with the TVE3 is working great. ;)
However, every time I restart MediaPortal and restart MyTV, the audio is at stream #1, which is normally MPEG, but I would like to have it at AC3. What I have to do is to select AC3 manually to switch it to AC3. That is really annoying if you have to do that every day. :(
What I would like to have is an option in TV server to select AC3 as the default audio stream, if available. That means the TV server shall choose the AC3 audio stream by default and only switch to MPEG, if no AC3 is available.

    Would that be possible?

    UPDATE 20.04.2007:
This has been implemented in SVN 14195 by gemx:
19/04/2007 [17:29h] gemx added: Implemented preferred audio stream selection

    Thanks gemx!

Due to the patch for AC3 in single seat setup where the TVPlugin has to change the audio stream i think it's better to make a option in the plugin for "prefer AC3".
If others are interested in this too i will think about a patch.

What about channels that contain multiple mpeg1 layer2 audio channels.

    ex. Cartoon Network.

    NOR
    SWE
    ENG
    DAN

    None of them are ac3.
It's also annoying to change audio lang. all the time here.

Also sometimes a channel contains 2 languages at the same time.
English in the left speaker, and Swedish in the right.
Listening to this for more than 2 minutes will make u go raving mad hehe.

How could this be solved ?

I think there could be two options that could be used to solve this:

    1) Store the last selected audio stream in DB for every channel
    2) Use a prefered audio settings option. So user could select for example 5 audio languages (and prefered audio type also) and tv client would then select the best available match for audio stream.

I would prefer the first option.
The problem with the 2nd is that not always the language is set.
On most of my DVB-S channels here in Germany i don't have a language set.
The 2nd option would be a bit complicated to implement also.
I think option 1 is the way to go.

    What do you think?

I agree that extending the DB is easier thing to do, but it might not be the user friendliest sollution at least for users that have lot of available channels. I think all DVB audio streams have language descriptor (ISO_639_language_code) and also the Mpeg1/2/AC3 information available, so it should be pretty easy to find automatically the language that user prefers (and also if AC3 is prefered)

    Can't agree.
I have several channels in which the language descriptor is not set.
Why do you think extending the db is not user friendly?
The setting should be stored automatically so user does not have to do anything?
I am still thinking that extending the channels table by 1 column (e.g. lastAudioStreamID) and storing the value right before switching to another channel would be the "smoothest" way
