lucky one... had an "old" installation in my living room -> first button == back -> works as defined, only basic home... i really would like to support with looking at the patch, but my spare time is very rare atm...

I just applied the original patch (from the 1st post) to a clean MP 1.1.0 codebase and can reproduce the issue.
Unless there is a patch not posted here, the original patch had the same issue. Or something else has changed since the patch was submitted.

my living room runs on RC6, so there might be changes in 1.1.0...
