Is it possible to install MP to a system that hasn't got MS Media Player installed (or even completely remove windows xp N

Id like to use this software for exmple with VLC or MediaPlayerClassic is this possible...

I think so. If you have all codecs needed installed. You can select what player you want to use for each type of mediafile (music, movies, DVD)

Only if you're good enough to know which components of WMP that MP uses - and even then, you probably wouldn't know which files are related to that.

So the short answer is no if you want to use all the features of MP. But, I think you can do without WMP if you do not want to use the TV part - you can pick different music players for the music modules, and various video/audio codecs for movies/dvd etc as per the post above.

Its a trial and error process that's not supported by the MP devs. Is there a reason for your dislike of WMP? Don't like Microsoft? DRM (which is really already in your computer unless you used Windows XP N)?

Using windows N would indead relieve us from the blooddy DRM -
so that is somthing id like to review. but looking at this now it seams to be a hell of a job. probably the files that are recuired either use DRM (wmp 9/10/11) or dont support tv (yet) > 7.x

but im certainly not givving up (yet) and id love to mark at MS later on with a drm-less vista home N -

as i realy do believe a lot of users might be interested.

I wouldn't count on that. I'm sure there will be DRM in place in Vista anyway, for other purposes, e.g. document protection (thought that may come with Office, not sure).

Why fear WMP's DRM support? DRM itself is a very bad thing in my opinion, but as long as you don't use any DRM protected content (videos, music. etc.) there isn't anything to be afraid. Remember that most of the todays mobile phones have huge amounts of DRM related code inside (thrust me, I know )
