Any update on this functionality? I finally got tiered of this (IMHO) inconsistency and was certain to find a solution here. There had to be a setting or a remote command to handle this, but no, here I am in the therad proposing just what I was looking for.
Any chance of seeing this implemented in the near or distant future?

Edit:
One thing not mentioned (clearly) before: When the popup appear the timeshift buffer is still streaming and and the recording is shown in the medium size tv window in the TV home screen with the dialog window partly blocking the view. Only when closing the dialog the buffer is dropped.
All we ask is mainly to be able to close the dialog without it clearing the buffer at the same time.

    When the message pops up about the buffer the only way to continue without loosing the buffer is to press the 'x' key or the equivalent mapped to your remote. This normaly toggles fullscreen video palyback. Repeat this any time the message appears, this is a workaround as what is happening with the buffer deletion is supposed to happen with the settings as they are in MP.

    There is work on the TVserver/MP to allow 'parking' of the tv buffers, this is WIP with no release date as of yet.

    Now with respect to your specific situation in first post the log part is this

    What country are you in ? and how are your TV channels mapped to cards for BBC1 and BBC2.

    If both are only available on DVB-S and tune to different MUX's then the tvserver worked correctly.

    Here's a clean set of logs.

    1. Scheduled a recording starting 00.15
    2. Started watching another show at ~23.59 and paused it
    3. Had a cup of tea
    4. Resumed watching at ~00.08
    5. At 00.12 (00.15 - 3 minutes pre-recording) MP switched from full screen TV to the main TV-view and stopped playback since a recording was starting

    //Johannes

    Looking at your logs you have two DVB-S tuners, do they take a feed from one LNB/Satelite or different LNB/Satelite as not all channels are mapped to the same tuners.

    2011-07-01 00:12:17.927749 [scheduler thread(26)]: Controller: found 1 card(s) for channel

    To remove the buffer message use the 'x' key to toggle fullscreen to workaround this and continue without deleting the existing buffer, repeat if the message reappears.
