I have been using MP for over a year now with no real problems until recently when it kept crashing. I decided that I would start from scratch using another HDD already installed on the PC. I installed XP plus SP1 and SP2, graphics drivers, soundcard etc, etc. Then Mediaportal v 0.2.3. Everything works just fine except it will not wake up to record or to update WebEPG.
The PC will sleep and wake up on command from the MCE remote. It will even go to sleep if left. It will record if left on. But what it will not do is do wake itself up, either from sleep or hibernate. I have the MCE standby tool but I cannot see anything amiss.
I suspect that MP is doing all the right things and that it may be a checkbox not checked somewhere in the depths of XP (I have looked!) or it may be a registry setting.
The log files (attached) appear to show everything is in order. It is just that it does not wake up.
Please can someone help?

Hi Mike long time no hear from.

Your right there is nothing in logs amiss, are all the new updates done as well as SP2, if you have plugin enabled and set to home screen only shutdown, there's very little else that would effect the scheduler, even the setting under general for "allow S3" is only for the remotes usb standby power to remain constant.

It's a while since i used stable release and there have been some changes with powerscheduler, mainly restart MP after resume and then the rest are TVE3 based for server shutdown.

Just out of curiosity, if you enable hibernate, does it then work.

Ray, Thanks for replying. You are always one of the first to reply and usually with good, reassuring advise.

I have to admit that, on this occasion, I am stumped. I feel as if I am missing something but I am damned if I can find anything. I think I may have to start at square one and reinstall everything again.

If anyone out there has anything that may help please say now It may save me hours of work (and an ear-bashing from the wife!).

I still have not got around to reinstalling everything. It is just a little daunting and, i feel sure, probably unnecessary. I would like to try to find a slicker way round my problem.

So... can anyone tell me how MP, and Powerscheduler in particular, sets up a PC to wake up? Does it place an entry in "scheduled tasks" in the control panel? or is there a registry entry which is changed? or is there another way that MP tells the PC to wake up at the right time?

Any help will be gratefully received?

Did hibernate work, as this could be a faulty memory module or even the cmos battery is also a possibility if the pc is a couple of years old.

The same thing happens with hibernate as suspend, although I have not produced a log for it.

MP goes to sleep normally (or hibernates) if there is no action but does not wake up. I can send it to sleep with the remote. I can even wake it up by using XP's scheduled tasks in control panel. But, frustratingly, it will not wake up to record a program using MP.

As I said earlier, I have 2 hard drives with XP installed on both with dual boot. The first one is the one I have used for a year now with no problem, at least as far as waking up is concerned. I have now switched the default boot to the other drive, reinstalled everything, including SP2 and 90 security updates for XP. The hardware is the same. Everything is working perfecly except for waking up. I have uninstalled MP and reinstalled it - no change.

I really feel this is a missing "link" between MP and XP, which is why I am asking how MP wakes up XP.

I am having the exact same issue.
I can :
Send MP to sleep via remote control
Wakeup via remote control
Everything is fine...

But... MP will not wakeup by itself for scheduled recordings....

Very strange... Have you sorted it it out yet ? If so, what did you find ?

Hi. I never did track down what the problem was. I ended up reinstalling on my alternative boot on my second HDD from the ground up. A bit extreme but it was something I had been meaning to do for some time.

Thinking about it afterwards the only thing I did not try was to fiddle with the settings in Powersheduler. I am now thinking that I may have tweaked some of these settings earlier. You know how it is: you change this, tweak that and before you know it you have forgotten what you actually changed. It probably has nothing to do with the problem but it's worth a try.

Since my last post, it now wakes up for schedules, but for some reason 4 out of 5 times MP will hang on " Loading Window Plugins " screen.

This really needs to be sorted out...
