Which video/audio codecs are you using?
You can change this in the main program. Go to Settings -> My TV.

Also, in the My TV section, have you clicked the "TV On" selection? There should be an orange colored light when the tuner is active.

Have you looked at the graph that your card creates? Also check the log for graph errors when loading and connecting pins.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying...

...video/audio codecs
» MPV Decoder Filter
» MPA Decoder Filter

...have you clicked the "TV On" selection?
» When I do i get "Failed to start TV. No tuning information found for 2 WKRN."

Also, I did not create the graph, I just copied the capture XML from this post. Is that a problem?

Thanks!
Chris

You might try different decoders. Depending on what you have installed, I have used the ATI/Cyberlink, Elecard and nVidia Pure Video.

As for a graph, if you are not getting graph errors, you don't have to check it. It is a good way of learning what MP does to make the card work.

Also, there should be an error in your log file. It may be more descriptive. But, according to what you posted, it sounds like a problem with one of the channels.

Close down the main MP program and start the MP Setup program. In the Television->TV Channels section, click on the channel that is causing the error. Check that it has all the required information. If any is missing, you can fill it in (if you know the missing info), or you can delete it. See if tv works after deleting the channel. You can also re-scan and see if it corrects itself.

There is an option to save (backup) your current channel lineup. This is so you don't have to re-scan to get back your original lineup.

Looks like graph errors...

Hi Paul,

Looks like graph errors. I checked the error logs and found...

2007-03-11 15:51:10.546875 [ERROR][6]: DVBGraph:database invalid tuning details for channel:2
2007-03-11 15:51:10.656250 [ERROR][6]: Command:MediaPortal.TV.Recording.ViewTvCommand failed reason:Failed to start TV
No tuning information for 4 WSMV time:156.25 msec
2007-03-11 15:51:29.218750 [ERROR][6]: DVBGraph:database invalid tuning details for channel:4
2007-03-11 15:51:29.218750 [ERROR][6]: Command:MediaPortal.TV.Recording.ViewTvCommand failed reason:Failed to start TV
No tuning information for 6 WZTV time:640.625 msec

I'll try the graphing and let you know what happens.

Thanks for the pointers!
Chris

Those errors don't really look like graph errors. You will probably find that MP is making a suitable graph. It still looks like channel errors. If you look at the channel data, I think that you will find that the info for the ATSC channels is missing. Delete the channels and re-scan.

Also, in the Program Guide section, un-check the box for "Grab EPG from DVB...".

Don't scan for channels using the Wizard in the main program, scan in the setup program in the Capture Cards (click Edit) section.

ok. i'll give that a try tonight.

Quick question, when I scan in the Capture Card setup program, will it also find my hi-def channels as well (Chns 231 - 239)? The regular scan only seems to grab chan's 1-69.

This is a HD card, what other channels would you want?

You wouldn't be trying to pull in cable tv now, would you? I don't have much knowledge on that, but I think that it will find them in a lower range. I believe that the cable box re-maps the channels to a higher channel.

If you want to use the analog tuner from your card, it will need to be set up as a totally different card. It will have a different device ID number and different drivers. You will also need a MPEG encoder, as MP only records in a MPG format (dvr-ms).

Well it looks like my scan does not work.

Even though the scan show most channels were found with 100% strength and 100% signal quality, after it's completed there's nothing under TV Channels in the setup. I'm not using the wizard and unchecked the "Grab EPG from DVB..." checkbox.

I am trying to pull in digital cable TV - not OTA. Maybe that's my problem?

Maybe I have to move over to MythTV since I am trying to pull in digital cable TV?

The reason I bought the 5500 is because it handles unencrypted QAM, so I should be able to record hdtv via digital cable.

what do you think?

I was looking at the set up pages for something that would tell MP that you want cable, not OTA. The only thing that I found, so far, is in the TV Channels set up section.

When you select a channel, click on the ATSC tab. In the Modulation line, the drop-down window has several selections. There is 8VSB and several QAM selections. You may need to manually change this.

Unfortunately, I can't test that because there are no channels under the TV Channels setup (catch-22). And after some research it appears MP does not yet support QAM. So that would explain why my scans fail to provide channels.

Looks like I'll have to try MythTV. Not that I mind Linux, but I'm much more proficient with Windows.

Thanks for all your help Paul!!!
