So afterall my HTPC is running nicely as a recordingstation i tried to use it as Mediacenter.

Well, its unusable. The sound often sucks. its better when you watch tv in fullscreen (no MP menus, but mp in windowmode). When i open any menu the sound takes a rest, parts of the sound are hearable but sucking. CPU Usage is @ 20% so it's impossible the reason.
Second Failure: when changing between windowed and fullscreen the sound works fine, but the picture is gone. The last frame stays. MP is still usable, when you know where to click blindly, but there is no chance to get back any picture. You can minimize, you can move, but window keeps staying empty.

To check all my installations i took an empty HDD and installed Windows new, installed all the neccessary drivers and patches, but nothing changed. Still sucking sound and freezing picture.

From my point of view, the pc should be fast enough to do all the jobs, but fails.

Hope anyone can help me.

Greetings

Chris

    The sound often sucks.

Hi Chris, what do you mean by that technical description ... ;)

Does this "sound sucking" problem occur with all media types (DVD, music, videos, ... etc), or just with live TV?

Does timeshifting ON or OFF make any difference?

If you select "Start MP in full-screen mode" in MediaPortal Setup, does that make any difference?

What aduio decoders have you already tried?

What audio renderer do you have selected?

It would also help if you attached a copy of your MediaPortal.log file to your post, taken when the "sound sucks" - that might give us a clue ...

The second problem (to do with the picture freezing) is well known - the workaround is to not change to full screen with video running. I assume you have a dedicated PC as your HTPC, in which case you should run MediaPortal in full screen mode all the time?

well ok, 2nd Probleme is ok. When Changing without Video running it works. The reason, why i'm not running fullscreen is, it's a test system. So i often check CPU usage and other things. This is only possible by using window mode, later this will be no longer a problem.

A technical description about my sound suckers: The sound often breaks. The video is still running, but there is no longer any sound. After some seconds some short parts of sound are played. Then there is silence again or you get a mix of sound and silence.

I tried all the sound decoders. There is no logical combination. Sometimes everything is ok, sometimes there is even no sound when viewing fullscreen.

I'll try again tonight and try to find a reproducable combination.
