That's the reason why i'm not using the TV functions in MP, i prefer so much to use the built-in DTV tuner in my TV. So i use MP for all other functions (pictures, music, internet browing, news, games, etc).... I think that MP team is very focused to TV functions in MP, and in my modest opinion they are the less important for an HTPC software like this. I think that MP should be splited into two different projects, one for HTPC media funcions (very focused in the interface features and smooth fx) and other for TV (may be as an independant plugin for MP). However i wish all of you the best luck with TV...

@grubi - you wouldn't happen to know the registry settings off hand would you? Otherwise I will dig them up. I have the VA deinterlace setting, but not the VMR9 settings...

BTW: What is your connection between coputer and TV? It has to be DVI or HDMI and you must have 1 to 1 pixel mapping ohterwise you will never achive a crisp picure as everithing is get scaled twice.

I have my Samsung connected via D-SUB VGA which is mapped 1:1 (1360x768 with 3 pixel width either side empty). Unfortunately it's impossible to get 1:1 pixel mapping via HDMI with my model ('R' Series), so that's why I'm running VGA. It's very crisp via the desktop, so 1:1 is working a treat atm. It's just the DVB tv that's not looking so great when compared to say Lost in 720p h.264.

I can't find any solution for this issue yet... using HDMI input the black in samsung panel are the best in the market (for a LCD screen) but using VGA, blacks looks like dark gray...

You're referring to the IRE black levels right (16-235 vs 0-255)? I fixed that issue by tweaking the colour output of the AVIVO drivers combined with adjusting the contrast and brightness via the Samsung menus itself.

I tried so many things tho, I'm not quite clear that those exact steps solved the problem.

Most video drivers provide control of DAC - contrast/brightness/gamma. That should be sufficient to adjust VGA output.

This is for sd only not hd.
The last setting seems to vary depending on Catalyst version. You should try :
dword:00040020 or dword:00000001 or simply delete that setting.

Also be aware of that these setting to work you have no contradicting settings
at HKCU and under the subkey MediaPortal. You could also place them under
the subkey MediaPortal. Then they only have an effect to MediaPortal and no
other app.

The most easiest way to see if adaptive deinterlacing works is to choose
a news channel with a vert. scrolling newsticker at the bottom, or to
use HQV Benchmark DVD

That depends. The xxxR8y-series does 1:1 @ HDMI 2 / 60 Hz

Try using ffdshow codecs http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm i get great results using this codec, also place a check mark on Postprocessing and enable 'Automatic quality control' , and mplayer, accurate deblocking, Luminance and 'Full luma range'. Also activate 'Resize & aspect', set your preferred resolution and select 'Lanczos' in Luma method... get great results that way...

I have alot of issues with artifacts, especially on darker scenes on videos encoded with divx and xvid. Will the above settings help me eliminate or minimize artifacts? What postprocessing settings have others found works best to reduce artifacts and give the highest playback quality.

sure, using ffdshow and adding some filters you can remove almost all artifacts even in dark scenes. Just tweak a bit with ffdshow, using postprocessing will also enhace the color eq...
