This feature request is documented in wiki: PicturePlaybackModes
This thread is for getting feedback
    • whether your would like to see it implemented as well,
    • improving the concept and
    • documentation.
    Current implementation
The picture player is responsible for opening and presenting the images. Currently pictures are always opened as a "slideshow".
    • This means if multiple pictures are opened, they will be added to a "playlist" and the displayed, each on for a defined time. If all are displayed the player is closed.
    • If a single picture is opened it is displayed for the defined timeout and then the player is closed as well.
    Proposal
    A) PictureBrowsing (SinglePictureView)
When a single picture is opened the playback time for this picture is infinite. It won't switch automatically to the next one and the player won't be closed automatically.
The KenBurns effect is not activated within this mode.

    Control / Navigation
    Navigation to other pictures
It is possible to navigate from one picture to the previous or the next one of the same folder. (Could be achieved by adding all pictures of the current view (filter) to a fake playlist even if only a single picture is being opened.
InputMapping: Left / Right, Previous / Next

    Zoom
Pictures should be zoomable. For more information see Zoom.
    Inputmapping: Channel up / down.

    Starting a slide show
It is possible to start a slideshow (switch to the slideshow mode, see below) by pressing Play.

    PicturePlayerOSD
    InputMapping: Info button is pressed

    ContextMenu
InputMapping: Info button is pressed twice

    B) Slideshow
If multiple images are added to a slideshow the picture player is started in slideshow mode. Each picture is displayed for a defined time and after all pictures were displayed the player is closed.
If enabled, KenBurns will be used during playback.

    Control / Navigation
    Navigation to other pictures
Navigation to previous and next pictures is being done similar to the PictureBrowsing mode.
    Pausing the slideshow
By pressing Pause the slideshow is paused and switched to the PictureBrowsing mode.
    Zoom
If a picture is zoomed, the slideshow is automatically paused and player reacts immediately like it does in PictureBrowsing mode.
    PicturePlayerOSD
Picture playback continues like in VideoPlayer
    ContextMenu
Picture playback is paused to execute menu commands specific for the current picture and prevent switching to the next one in the meantime.

    Just a few questions from a MP2-Newbie:

    1. How do you add multiple images for a slideshow? Currently with my remote I hit "Enter/OK" to see a single picture (=PictureBrowsing), and when I hit "Play" slideshows starts. Thats pretty fine for my usercase and intuitive. Will this be the same in MP2?

    2. What about Videos inside Pictures folders? This is a pretty forgotten/non-dev area in MP1 and works with a few bugs. Are there already concepts about this in MP2?

    1. Can be done when browsing your images: In menu you have "Add all to playlist", this will add the current list to playlist.

    2. Can be done when you are browsing media by folder ("Browse Media"): When you are inside a folder with both images and videos, and use the menu point from 1., you will get a combined playlist of video+images

When you create a share (i.e. "Pictures") you have to define that it contains both Images+Video (maybe even Audio)

This is not as user friendly as it could be. Creating a playlist (like Rockstar :p) before able to play / display something is huge usability issue.

I made some suggestions for the MP1 picture section.
Perhaps they are useful here to ...

    • add a panorama mode (pictures much wider than the screen are scrolling slow from left to right)
    • show goetagged photos on a map or jump google earth like from photo to photo
    • Tag photos as "screensaver" and show them as screensaver when mePo plays music or is idle for a while

Has been brought up already, but thanks for pointing this out again. It's not written down nicely in wiki, yet.
I created a new blank page in wiki about the panorama mode. For the Map feature we also already had a wiki page.

    (y) Great idea which has not been raised, yet, afaik. At least I can't remember it.
I added an empty page to the wiki for this. Thanks.

The wiki pages can be extended by everybody by texts, better descriptions, screenshots or links etc..

Agree completely - Is there any way to select a folder and then a slideshow of all the pictures in the folder would be shown. Similar to operation in MP1

So to prevent any confusion, MP2 internally create a playlist, which is good and great won't change.

We call it playlist since it is done the same way for pictures like it is done for music and videos etc. This means it offers us the reusing the same features without the need to write code for "putting one item after another" and "playing these items beginning from the start". There is no need to develop something like "play a slideshow randomly", because in MP2 the general playlist handling offers it already.

For more details take a look at https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/mediaportal-2-updates-mp2-blog.117782/#post-982846, please.
