    Hello Folks,

I have MP connected to a Yamaha receiver via HDMI. My TV is connected to the receiver via HDMI. So it's:
    MP --hdmi--> Yamaha RX465 --hdmi--> Samsung UE40B6000

Audio is played back by the Yamaha receiver, NOT on the TV nor by speakers connected to MP directly.
Sometimes I just want to listen for example to DVB-S radio. But if I turn of the TV, playback stops. I suppose this is the expected reaction as the "endpoint" of the HDCP-protected path is removed.

Is there any way to turn of TV while playing back in this setup?

I found out that I can start playback via remote-control software if the TV is already turned of but thats kind of inconvenient...

    Thanks a lot!

Have the same problem. Do you also experience that MP gets minimized when turning off the TV, then back on? I do. Also when I turn on the TV again I can't adjust the sound in MP, have to restart MP to be able to adjust the sound again..

Have you tried playing a mediafile outside MP and turning of the TV, is the result the same?

Me to have a Yamaha Reciever (RX663)

Yes, the result is the same.

I think, this is exactly how it's supposed to be, HDMI was designed this way. However, moments after the TV has been turned off, a new end-to-end encryption has been established between the HTPC and the Yamaha receiver. That's why playback works again if you press "play" on your remote after the TV was turned off.

    At least that's my theory.

If it is true what we would need was either a more tolerant HDMI-Audio driver (which is unlikely) or a mechanism in MP that can catch the event causing the playback to stop and to resume playback afterwards.

If someone with more knowledge of HDMI specifications comes across this, please spread some light.

    Cheers!

known problem from ATI cards afaik.
make sure you do not have atievxxx.exe running (either as autostart exe or as service). This process is responsible for detecting displays hotplugs and disconnects, so you just need to disable it for not reacting to TV to be switched on/off.
let us know if this help.

I get the same or similar problem if the tv is turned off media portal stops the TV output, worse if live TV is paused then the TV is turned off, when the TV is turned back on the TV guide appears but the channel being watched is not highlighted, pressing back on the remote jumps to the my TV menu with TV window blank, if you move the highlight to the window and press ok original channel restarts, surely MP should honour the paused program?
What I don't understand (see my earlier post https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...96/tv-screen-blanks-when-tv-turned-off-79462/) is that windows media centre doesn't suffer from this problem
Do micro$oft know/do something that no one else does?

logs attached, just after creating these turned TV off, when turned back on blank screen, nothing I could do made MP reappear, has to use task manager to kill the process.
the two logs attached, are form the same TV but with different ports, hdmi 1 supports digital audio aparently, TV is a panasonic viera
to my mind hdmi is a pain in the ar**!

Stopping ATI's hotplug-service as decribed by Vasilich did solve the problem in my case.

    hi

unfortunately I have an intel G45 chip set, asus P5Q-EM motherboard, I know there are bugs in the intel drivers (the last update cured the dissapearing sound problem) I will try stopping the intel services to see if this cures the problem

Does anyone know if this problem is a bug or not, I tried stopping the intel display services, didn't make any difference.
I can put up with the TV re appearing in a window, when the TV is turned off, but the pause thing is really annoying and makes pause unusable if the TV is turned off.
As with other HDMI related problems media centre doesn't exhibit this fault, is it possible to stop MP responding to a direct x display disconnected message?
