Playing DVD's not working - Clean Install (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys

Thanks for your responses so far, the forums here are awesome. I've been having some issues with playing DVD's in mediaportal. I have an LG BluRay drive and I understand that's it's complication to play DVD discs at the moment so I'm not to worried about that for now, however I'd at least like to be able to put in a DVD and have it play that from within MediaPortal. I know it can be done and it seems to work fine on my other computer but not my dedication media PC. I was playing around with it the other day and I'm pretty sure that I got to a point where I thought, stuff it I'll just reinstall MediaPortal over the top. I think that fixed it temporarily. It did stop working again. I do have the DVD plugin enabled and also MovingPictures. It seems to get to a point where I put the disc in and MediaPortal recognises it, asks if I'd like to play it, but then when I say yes it does nothing. I"m happy to send through the logs but which logs are required and are they all located in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\log?

I also found yesterday that when I played a BluRay disc via PowerDVD 10 Ultra, with MediaPortal shut down that once I finished watching the movie, went into MediaPortal that my home screen was showing a movie overlay saying that the most recent movie I had was the BluRay disc. I'm guessing this is just because I have MediaPortal set to download movie info of optical discs as well.

On a side not, I have no idea to play a DVD using MovingPictures. Is this just automatic when you put a disc in or do I need to select the drive somewhere? I have customised Moving Pictures to go directly to a list of Genres or All Movies so perhaps I've done something wrong there and I no longer get the optical drive listed as an option.

Oh, by the way, I now have an image of a clean build of Windows 7 but no codecs or MediaPortal installed so if something messes up I can get back to the Windows basics quickly. I am currently only using the SAF 4.0 codecs and PowerDVD 10 installed.

hey sanity,
i had a problem that just sounds the same with the old MP - movie intro would start but then picture hangs (PDVD9 Codec) while sound continues (AC3filter w/ SPDIF)
since i am using MP 1.1.2 and SAF4 for DVD playback it works - even though i experience some video glitches with SAF4 i didn't see with W7 native MC...
W7 Ultimate x64 w/ MS SQL Server (mediaportal install script)
MP 1.1.2 w/ TV Server
SAF 4.0
nothing more (W7 MC&WMP still enabled)
LG CD/DVD
ATI Radeon HD 3600 w/ CCC

Assuming you are using ffdshow filter for the DVD playback. It might be worth checking you are configured as follows.

Close MediaPortal and the ffdshow video decoder settings (should be under your start menu if you are running SAF4.0 stable).

In the ffdshow config, select "Codecs" on the left hand side and then navigate to "MPEG2" in the table of codecs, Highlight "MPEG2" and at the bottom of the properties window there is a tick box to enable "DVD Decoding" which you need to put a tick in.

Then, next to MPEG (which is in the "Format" column in the table), Click in the "Decoder" column which will give a drop down box. Select "Libmpeg2" from the list.

Click OK.

Re-run MediaPortal.

Now try a DVD.

Thanks very much guys for your replies and but I sorted the problem after doing even more searches through the forums. I had seen a post which wasn't exactly the issue I had but thought it could worth looking into. The long and short of it was I had to change the Video Renderer to VMR9 and back to EVR mode. This was necessary even though EVR was actually allready selected. Turns out this has been an issue in other version of MediaPortal apparently. The exact steps I needed to follow foranyone else experiencing the people were:

1. Open MediaPortal Configuration
2. Click Codecs and Renderer
3. Click Video Renderer
4. Select Video Mixing Renderer 9 (VMR9)
5. Click OK (To close MediaPortal Configuration)
6. Open MediaPortal Configuration (again)
7. Click Codecs and Renderer
8. Click Video Renderer
9. Select Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR)

After performing the above steps things worked as expected. This was originally discovered from someones logs where although the person had EVR set the logs were indicating otherwise. So this has also fixed my issue. I will still check the settings that were mentioned above also as I am unsure at the moment whether I had it set to ffdshow or PowerDVD now.

Hey Guys-

I am having the same issue in as much as when I insert a DVD, I am presented with the autoplay dialog, choose yes and nothing happens. I can then choose "Play DVD" from my menu in StreamedMP and the same...nothing. The DVD plugin IS enabled. You can see below, my log verifies just that...nothing! LOL

I have this problem too. I have auto play disabled, select "Play Disc" in main menu, Next screen shows mounted DVD (drive D) and Virtual drive E, Select drive D and I am returned to main menu.
I have two MP installs. one on Win7 32bit and one on Win7 64bit, Both running MP 1.1.2.
Both have the same problem.

Should I have a DVD plugin installed? if so which one and where do I find it?
Windows Media Player plays the DVD's fine.

What else can I try?

Autoplay and Play Disc shortcut only works with My Videos currently. For MP 1.2.0 all plugins can utilize autoplay and play disc shortcut with small update effort.

Found my issue...thanks to the lead from Manfred.

Check that "Play Disc" and "Videos" is enabled in plug-ins.

As I use Moving Pictures and My TV Series there was no need for Videos plugin to be enabled.
I didn't notice anything in the wiki under Play Disc, could have missed it.
Sounds like a feature for 1.2.0, If Play Disc plugin is enabled MP should prompt you for Videos to be enabled or auto enable it and through it in Plugins sub directory.
Any how I can now play a disc.

AW: Playing DVD's not working - Clean Install

For some who can not fix it: Try region settings.

I also had a problem with playback until I found out that the region settings of my system were wrong.
Mediaportal does not give you the info when a wrong region for the DVD is selected - it just won't play.
