Hi,

i did many days of testing to get accelerated H.264/VC1 playback working. So far partial success.
Did fresh WinXp install, installed catalyst 7.6, then setup the HD2400 registry hacks, then installed PowerDVD 7.3. Ultra + latest Patch. .mp4 / vc1 Testfile and a .ts H.264 play now in PowerDVD and WMP11 hw accelerated, ~5-10 % CPU load, 20-60% GPU Load. OK. I installed MP, setup for powerdvd codecs. It plays the H264 .ts hw accelerated like wmp11. But it wont play the .mp4 vc1 - 1sec black screen then back to movie list.
HDTV Live TV H264 works too. After zapping i get the first 2-5 secs of playing glitches/wrong colors.

I did testing with catalyst 7.7, 7.8, 7.9beta before. All could accelerate mp4/vc1 with powerdvd and wmp11, but not the .ts/h264. In MP both types gave black screen or crashing MP. Guess the registry hacks just work in catalyst 7.6.
Anyone tried further? Registry hacks for HD 2400 Pro and higher catalyst versions?

I was trying to get PowerDVD working last night on my HD2400 and the latest 7.9 drivers but it seems to crash immediatly. I tried with .ts and mkv files.

Therefore if you hear anything about additional patches it woul dbe good to post as I am sure that there are a few people on here that are interested.

i found that haali mkv seemed to only use soft decode. but at 1080p a 2.4ghz e4300 was plenty of power (8600 GT OC video, dual interleaved ram, sata-II 300 7200.10 drive) to handle it. so i'll live with soft decode since it didn't drop frames. quality is a little less than desired.

but unlike xbmc-linux, media portal is just working right now. so for now brute force powah is an acceptable solution since the e4300 is down to like $55 and copper paint $8 brings it up to 2.4ghz :)

haali mkv is a definite problem. the same media in a standard format routes fine in vista.32 to the GPU powered codec. not sure what haali is doing to present a different path of codecs.

I have the same thing, Graphedit tells me that MP is using the PowerDVD codec but the CPU load is higer, about 25%, under MP than it is under MWP11, about 8%, using the same movie (Casino Royale 1080P.mkv)
I also use Haali Media Splitter (as well as AC3 and PowerDVD), if I don't .mkv and .ts files just wont work at all.

That means that MP is somehow not taking full advantage of the HD2400 capabilties.
But it all works now on my setup so I really do not care all that mutch ;)

I'm no expert about mp programming, but my guess would be that either the codecs or ati drivers are not using (or allowing) the full advantage of your card.

Also the cyberlink (powerdvd) has some issues with the 7.9 drivers (for example it only likes auto deinterlacing with this version).

I've found this thread, to be a fountain of information on these new cards:

I know it's a loooong one, but you will find a lot of information about the issues with the cards. And also some tweaks that can improve peformance, picture and solve some bugs. (use at your own risk though).
